Reese's Golden Birthday

Despite my pleas for Reese to stop growing and getting older, she went ahead and turned 6.
6 on the 6th= her Golden Birthday.

Instead of doing a regular, at-home birthday party this year, I gave her the option to pick a few of her best buddies to take on a fun girls' outing. I was feeling a bit crazy with several things I had going on, so luckily she loved the idea!

The Party Bus

First stop: the nail salon for some pampering

Next up: Lunch and presents at Subway
Last stop: The movie theater for Hotel Transylvania in 3D. The 3D was rocking their world.  It took Claire about 30 minutes before she stopped shouting, "Whoa! They're coming out!"

They were all so cute and seemed to have such a fun time. I totally had to laugh when on the drive home I heard a little voice pipe up with, "So, where are we going now?!"  We were having fun, but unfortunately I had to break the news that I was all out of money. ;)

That night, after Daddy got home from Priesthood Session, we had birthday "cake" (a giant cookie with frosting on top).

Momoo & Dadoo happened to call just minutes before to wish her a happy birthday so we got them in on the singing action with Skype.

Both girls were, of course, begging to see Molly too.
Now how's that for birthday simplification? I was proud of myself. I think if we lived closer to family, I could maybe get on board with doing a friend party every other year like so many of you do. But since we don't have any family to celebrate with, I love making it extra special every year with friends. The new plan Reese and I decided on is to alternate the at-home parties with out-and-about parties. Works for me!

Happy birthday, my Reesey-Dear!

So fun! You always do such fun stuff for your girls. I'm glad you were able to make it fun, but easy for you. Give Reese a squeeze for me and tell her happy birthday.

Sounds like a happy day. I'm especially impressed with the simplicity of the cake. Way to take your stress load off. Love the cute little fingernails too!

You are such an awesome mom Rachel! I seriously look up to you with all you do with and for your kids.

What a perfect birthday party!!! I love doing the parties for the kiddos, too, and just can't follow through even when I threaten no friend parties. We're totally doing the same thing for Blake's--taking his friends to the movies (this Friday in fact).

Perfect combo of fun and low-stress, if you ask me! I love golden birthdays!

What a cute way to celebrate! Abby would have loved every second of it. I too struggle with the yearly/every other year party dilemma since we don't live close to family either. I like your idea on how to do it though! Happy Birthday Miss Reese!! Hope you have a great year!

This looks like a blast. You do birthdays so well.

Happy belated birthday Reese! I hope someday we can be together for a birthday celebration of one of our kids.

Happy Birthday, Reese! Looks like Reese and Clara had the same kind of "friend birthday." :)
I don't know why somehow it seems so much easier that way. Maybe parties are just too much pressure.
