The Belly: 30 Weeks

aka LARGE & IN CHARGE
(Never know where to put my non-camera hand...awkward.) I'm not a big fan of documenting my huge belly and bum while pregnant so this is a big step for me. I have pictures towards the end of my pregnancy with Reese (pre-blogging days) and all they make me want to do is cry. I figure if I only take pictures in the morning before I double in size and keep my chubbo face out then maybe I'll feel a little better.

And good news, you don't even have to tell me lies about being cute and not very big because it is a plain and simple fact that I AM big. Here's the conversation with my doctor last week after she measured my belly (at 29 weeks).

Me: "Okay, am I measuring big?"
Dr: "Oh, maybe a little."
Me: "How big?"
Dr., shrugging it off: "Ohhhh, 32 (cm)."
Me: "That's a lot big!"

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to measure as many centimeters as you are weeks. She was sweet and told me that that's just how I carry. Which is true. Her brother was my doctor last time and I remember his surprise (he kind of laughed) when he saw how high my fluid levels were in an ultrasound around this time. Oh well, what do ya do? Glad the baby's healthy. Enough about my bigness!

Here are some other things about this pregnancy...

  • My favorite thing to eat is Subway Sandwiches. I know, no deli meat. I got the go ahead from my doctor so I feel no guilt. Italian BMT with lots of onions and jalapenos...yum!
  • I walk like an old lady. My back is freaking killing me! It feels like something is severely pinched really low. By night time it's pretty thrashed and it keeps me awake.
  • I love maternity pants and would wear them even when I'm not pregnant if they would stay up. Come on, jeans with a stretchy waist-band....THE BEST!
  • We are further away in the baby naming process than we were a couple months ago. We are lame. I've had one name that I've really liked for years and years, but in my mission to convince Tom I think I'm almost talking myself out of it.
  • I feel completely stuck in the nursery decorating department. This is another area Tom and I don't agree. Can somebody send Nate Berkus my way? I've found some cute things, but nothing that I just love. This boy may end up with a pink floral bumper and a pink glider. At least the walls are already blue, even though it's a girly blue.
  • The girls are really excited for "Baby Brother". Claire thinks that's his name. Reese loves to tickle and kiss him, and asks me almost daily when he's "gonna pop out?" If only it were that simple. Claire on the other hand (although she also likes to kiss and tickle him) is already showing signs of jealousy. She's not only told us out of nowhere that the baby is not allowed to have her blankey, but when we told her that she gets to share a room with Reese when the baby comes she responded with a scowl and, "No! My crib!"
  • I've been averaging about 2 days a week at the gym. Not exactly great, but I figure it's better than nothing. The old ladies look at me with such concern.
  • I still love baby kicks (other than when he's kicking my bladder) and think that the whole process is just so cool and crazy! There's a baby inside of me!

I would kill small puppies to be able to look like you at 30 weeks.

What is this about no deli meat? I've never heard that! How did my children turn out normal?

I was so frustrated trying to find a crib set for Calvin. Everything was either loud colors or tacky cartoons or sports. Or tacky cartoon sports. I ended up getting this one and loved it: http://www.landofnod.com/crib-bedding/baby/natural-born-organic-crib-bedding-set/f6596

until a few weeks ago when he started spitting up carrots and peas and other lovely things. Luckily I'm pretty good at getting stains out, thanks to our friend Emily B. :) So I still love it. But it's kind of been a pain. Hopefully he'll grow out of this spitting-up stage soon.

Oh, and I WORE OUT my maternity jeans, wearing them after the baby was born. Do you have a Be Band? From Target? Changed my life. I still wear them. Over regular jeans.

I first have to comment on your "Clairey Strug" post... So hilarious! I loved that SNL video and I loved your documentation of Reese's first gymnastics class even more. The first thing that tells me something is not right with her coach is that she has on HUGE earrings. What?? Claire is the cutest little gymnast.... you don't need to be able to do a handstand when you are as adorable as her!! There is nothing that warms my heart as much as little gymnasts:) Keep up the good work Claire!

Dude, I know how you feel on the bigness thing. But then I've already told you that. I too am trying not to obsess about it. But whether you are feeling big or not, you really do wear it very cute. You are so stylish! Maybe I should wear something other than Anthony's large t-shirts?

I'm dying of curiosity to know the boy name you had picked out. You probably told me 10 years ago, but I can't remember.

I'm still waiting to feel my baby kick. I think I'm starting to feel little flutters, but I love the part when others can feel it too. I keep telling the kids that at some point the baby is going to start playing games with them and poking them back.

And as for the back pain - may I recommend a chiropracter? I happened to start going to one a few months before getting pregnant and I'm glad I am! Last week I went for a long walk and completely locked up my lower back. It was hard to sleep for a couple days. The chiro popped my hips back in to place and I felt better immediately. My chiro has a table that props you up by your hips so your belly doesn't touch table while he's working on you so it can be done. If your pain is bad, it might be worth trying!

I know you said we weren't supposed to tell you this, but I have to speak the truth...you do look so cute pregnant! And very stylish to boot. I always think pregnant bellies are so adorable, except for my own that is. Can you believe you have less than 10 weeks to go?? That is just crazy. Of course I'll be super excited when you have your baby because 1. I can't wait to see what a little baby boy Bjorkman will look like and 2. because that means I'll be having my baby a few weeks later!! Love your guts girl (and that includes your belly!!)

You are gorgeous! I too would kill small puppies (not really) to look so small and cute in either of my pregnancies. I looked obese from about 2 months for realz.
Good luck with the names ;-)

OK, I would kill small puppies to look like you now...and I'm not pregnant. You are darling!

You call that big! You don't look big at all, just cute. If your back's hurting, I agree with Heidi and the chiropracter thing. Or maybe you just need to opt for a weekly massage until the baby comes. Don't tell Tom I said that!

That is not big. I will send you a picture of me and it will make you feel better instantly. As for your back pain... it sounds like you have a pinched nerve called siatica. I had it with both pregnancies and it was horrible. The only thing that helped was this belt that lifted my belly off the nerve. So sorry. Its funny that you like Subway too. With my 2nd pregnancy I couldn't even look at the Subway signs with out dry heaving. Glad all is well. You look adorable.. belly and all.

I believe we're the same size, but I'm 11 weeks behind you. Sad for me, but you do look tiny!

I look like that at 11 weeks!!! I have to agree with everyone else... you look darling and not at all big. I know it's hard to believe that when you're in it, but you really do look fabulously cute. I vote you do a weekly massage, too... and you can tell Tom (if he protests) "No uterus, no opinion!" :)

Can't wait to see the little stud!

The picture only proves that you ARE tiny and cute. And I love maternity jeans too. I start wearing mine before I even get big enough to need them. I love jeans that don't have to be buttoned and zipped.

You look great! Steve had a blast at your house - thanks for having him. He was dying at all the similarities he realized we have, such as our love of italian sandwiches and Del Taco.

You look great! And you are rocking your maternity clothes (I always looked like something the cat drug in). Sorry you are measuring big... that is the worst. I remember when I was pregnant with Will and Lily my OB congratulated me when I was measuring "full term" at 26 weeks... it took great restraint not to hit her! Good luck with your last weeks!!!!

Im back ... Can I ask where did you get your little brown cardigan from, in the belly shot? I bet I wont be able to order it online to Oz but a girl can hope... I just love it.
See you

Rachel, you still look like what girls dream they look like when they are pregnant. A cute belly. My belly was not round, it was square when I was pregnant. It was so weird. And then of course, I'll never forget the fat face comments. I still fantasize about actually looking good when I'm pregnant, but I think that will be a fantasy unfulfilled.
