Please tell me you remember Kerri Strug---the Olympic gymnast from the 90's. I'm totally dating myself, aren't I? I can say things like that now...I'm 31. Here's one of my favorite past SNL clips to refresh your memory if needed.
Well, our very own Clairey Strug just started her much anticipated gymnastics class a couple weeks ago. She's seen Reese in her classes and could hardly wait to be old enough to do one of her very own!
She began her first day just right. As every Olympic hopeful knows, you must begin with a good, nutritious breakfast.
You must then follow by listening to your coach and doing thorough stretches as to not pull any muscles.
Uhh, hmm. Excuse me Miss Strug. I said, you must listen to your coach.
This is about where we lost her. She caught sight of the obstacle course and took off. She would run to the mats and do somersaults and twirl, and well, pretty much just do whatever she wanted. I had to chase her down multiple times. Not an easy task for this large preggo lady. I guess we'll give our Olympic hopeful a pass since she's only 2.
Her very YOUNG teacher seemed to be slightly less forgiving as she kept talking to Claire like she was at least 5. She was getting frustrated with her when by the 3rd round on the little course Claire wasn't totally understanding her instruction on how to do the perfect hand-stand. "No, your head can't touch the ground. Push up with your arms. SIGH...We need to work on your upper body strength." All I could do was laugh and make some flippant comment about what a weakling my 2 year old was.

CUTIE! How does that teacher not just melt into a puddle around her? Maybe that's it - she's just putting up a tough front. Oh and yes, I remember Kerri Strug. Which makes sense since I'm WAY older than you. :)
"You can do it Kippy!" I love that SNL skit. What a cute little gymnast. Love her pink leotard.
So stinkin' cute! There's just something about little girls in leotards. Let us know when she builds that upper body strength and give the rest of us hope. :)
Is she in a 2-yr-old class? I find it funny that the teacher was frustrated with her. If there were any other 2-yr-olds around -- especially boys -- surely she should've realized this class would have to be a bit more low key.
Your post reminds me that I need to get my kiddos in to gymnastics again. Where you in a mom-and-me? What did Reese do while you guys gymnasticised? (If she sat quietly and watched for an hour I will be very jealous).
Heidi, the class is a mom and me for 2 and 3 year olds. The time is right during Reese's preschool class so it works out perfectly! The main girl who teaches just doesn't know how to talk/relate to kids. She's not necessarily rude, she just really doesn't get it. It honestly just makes me laugh because my sister is the same way. All the rest of the teachers are really cute with them.
What a cutie! I hope she sticks with it. Rachel, you look amazing in your prego photo above, by the way.
