Potty Pooper

Okay, so the real exciting news around here is that Reese is potty trained! What's that? "Isn't she 10?" you say. Nope she's 3, and I'm so proud of her! She did soooo great and dare I say it? Yes I dare....it was easy! I was so scared and was really hesitant to start round 2, but in the end I knew she was ready and it went so much better than I ever would have thought.

My sister in law, Nora, suggested this 3 day method she did with her boy/my nephew, and it worked like a charm. It was the perfect method for a feisty, strong-willed, I want to do it when I'm good and ready sort of girl. The main focus of it was to put her in control. You never ask, "do you need to go potty?" or set a timer. You simply say, "Let me know when you need to go potty." There's definitely more to it than that, but in my mind, that was the most helpful/important part.

She had a few accidents on the first day, then after that it was basically smooth sailing...or peeing...whichever visual you prefer. I seriously hardly even had to say a word to her after the first day. She'd just run in and go.

A jar full of marbles (a marble or 2 for each success),
and a couple congratulatory calls from "Snow White" later,
and I officially called the potty training successful!

Really the hardest part to the whole potty training process for me was trying to keep myself from feeling sensitive to the silly comments people would say this past year. Mostly about her age. No worries, everybody that I know of that reads this blog was nothing but sweet and supportive (even if you were thinking otherwise ;) ). In the end, we waited until we were all good and ready and it turned out great! And while I definitely think we'll try a little earlier with Claire, I still overall see no rush to the process. We shall see when the time comes I guess. Let's get back to Reese. Yeah Reese!!!

Yay for Reese! Cole finally decided one day that he didn't want to wear diapers any more and that was it. I was so happy to not have to do any crazy potty training tricks! I think when they are ready is when it is time, not when we think it is time. Looks like my theory holds true because it worked for Reese too.

Another victory for motherhood! I love those big milestones, when you can say, "Yes, that one's over!" Congrats to Reese and to you!

yay for reese!! Isn't potty training your child one of the best things ever? It's such a crowning moment as a parent knowing you did that! Congrats. What a great bday present for you - only one child's diaper to change! So happy it was a good experience for you.

Yay Reese! Little underwear bums are the cutest thing ever. That's rotten that people made comments to you - I don't think she's "old" to be potty training at all. Both of my nieces were 4 before they were out of diapers. You are a momma on fire these days! Oh and

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!

just in case I haven't said it enough. :)

Yeah for Reese!!! I knew once she decided on her own, that potty-training would be a breeze. Abby was the same way and those two are like peas in a pod in a lot of ways. A big congratulations to little Miss Reese and an even bigger one to you and Tom for sticking it out. Way to go!!

Yay, Reese! For peeing in the potty AND earning an allowance! I wish there were something Rebecca wanted so badly that I could get her to help me around the house. Getting her to help me pick up toys is like pulling teeth.

What a big girl! Thanks for the shout out. I agree with you about the whole thing being such a positive experience. I feel like Charlie and I bonded during it all. Too bad everyday can't be about giving positive reinforcement, earning marbles, and getting calls from Snow White. (Who was Snow White by the way?) Ginger?

Good for her. And for you. One less diaper to change. My daughter's process took a while. Not because she wasn't ready but for other reasons a bit lame to discuss on a blog. So I'm glad yours was really that easy. Yeah go Reese!
