She Works Hard for the Money

Following in her daddy's footsteps

Reese had been eyeing this toy puppy at Michael's for a couple months (and by "eyeing" I mean throwing a tantrum every time we'd leave the store without it) so she and I decided on an action plan to get it. In a recent episode, her buddy George (the Curious one) taught her that if you want something, you can earn money to buy it. So she and I agreed that if she'd start helping me do chores (cleaning the playroom and her bedroom nightly) then I'd give her an allowance each week.

Being the determined little lady that she is, she got straight to work and helped me every night with the picking up. Oh how I wish I had taken pictures of her cleaning. She was so serious about it and would think long and hard about where to put each item. Things ended up in some funny places, but I thought it was too cute to care.

She saved up enough money, set her tithing aside, and put the rest in her wallet ready to go to Michael's the very next morning.
And darn straight I brought my camera along to document it all....
(No worries, she used a coupon. I'm not raising no fool! )
People who think stuffed animals are pointless haven't met my Reesers. She LOVES every last one and takes such great care of each. She calls them all her "darlings".

Way to go Reese....we're so proud of you for working so hard!

I have to admit I'm one of those who thinks stuffed animals are a waste of space . . . because I've never had a kid actually PLAY with one, ever! But man if they were loved like that little puppy obviously is maybe I'd change my mind! Good for mom for teaching her about earning and saving and tithing and all sorts of good lessons. Not to mention coupons. :)

Oh that is awesome!! I LOVE it! I was kind of the same way when I was younger only I would save and save my money! So great that you caught it all with your camera! :)

You cracked me up! Way to go with the coupons...start them young because when you are almost 30 (yikes) and have never used them much- can be overwhelming :) Glad she got her toy and you got some work done!! :)

What can I say? Intelligent, tenacious, cute as all get out, and thrifty too! She'll make a heck of a business woman someday. Remind me to sign her up as my business manager soon before she's booked:-)

Rachel, don't you ever stop carrying that camera!! I love the story because you found a great opportunity to teach her. I also laughed at your new airport security story on your sidebar. lol.

That's amazing. Austin isn't too motivated by money... or chores :o). Although, we do have success with sticker charts so maybe that's similar. Way to teach tithing from the get go! And wow, how long is her hair? It looks so nice too. It's hard to keep a 4-year-old's hair non-ratty.

THAT is great! It's so awesome that you encouraged her to do it herself! What a great lesson and super cute pictures!
