The Boppy Fairy

Saturday night the "Boppy Fairy" paid our house a little visit, and let's just say that you won't be seeing this face around here anymore...During the past several months I've sporadically mentioned to Reese that if she would give her boppies to the babies who needed them then the Boppy Fairy would leave her a present. Her response has always basically just been a shrug and a big no thank you. But on Friday when I brought it up again, something changed. Suddenly she was excited about the whole idea! She even came up with the idea of painting her boppies and also painting a picture for the babies.

So Saturday was the big day. We even wrote a letter for the Boppy Fairy (with her beautiful signature of course) then left it all out over night.
She went to bed without much complaint of her pacifier, and when she woke up, she gasped with excitement when she came down the stairs and saw her present.
(Re-enactment)

She seriously is so in love with her new pink kitty and has carried her almost everywhere. She had gotten it just 2 hours before church so I wasn't about to fight her on taking it with us (which would normally be a big no-no). But when it was time for nursery, Tom made her leave it with him. Just an idea of how that played out---when we got home from church and were saying a prayer over lunch, Reese said, "[Thank thee I could] go to nursery today..........and Daddy take my kitty away....and I cried." (Sometimes she likes to use prayers as an opportunity to tattle on us.)

A little info about her new best friend:
"My kitty's name is 'Reesey', and she has blond hair, and she has a birthday like me." Hmmm? I think I know her.

We're already going to go ahead and call Round 2 of Operation Boppy Removal a success. We really wanted to make sure that she was for sure ready this time around since we knew there was no going back. She really has done great and was in the best mood in all the world yesterday (other than the nursery/kitty incident of course). She didn't even ask for it last night. Yippy!!!!

Seriously, where do you get all of these good ideas? I love 3-year-old prayers. So cute.

That was awesome! I love it - the Boppy fairy. I'm glad that it's going so well. I think that we may have to invite a few new fairies to deal with some other things that I'd like to get rid of.

i wish I had known you were going to do the boppy fair I would have suggested this idea. I found out another idea from a mom at play group about taking all the binkys to the build a bear place and putting them all inside the bear and then they have their binky (or boppy) bear.

glad to know the fairy worked for you guys!

That is such a good idea. I sure wish I could get the thumb fairy to come to my house. Rebecca is almost five years old, for goodness sake.

Go Boppy Fairy. Do you think a potty fairy could work too?

I'm so very impressed. We really need to follow your example but I keep thinking...after potty training or after our plane trip in December.

By the way, I don't think I commented but I LOVE your family photos.

Sounds like a lot less trauma than operation cold turkey was at our house!

That's so great! There is something to be said for waiting till they are "ready". Goes significantly smoother! That was so cute that she thought to paint them and paint a picture.

Glad all is going well. We had a couple of failed attempts to get rid of Averie's and then we were finally successful around her 3rd birthday. We used the same idea. It worked pretty good until one day she said the fairy can have her toy back and I want my "happy back". Hopefully Reese loves her kitty too much and doesn't change her mind. Best of luck. Its a big change for them... and us.

Oh yay! What a great idea. It always works so much better when the kid is actually on board with your ideas! I'm trying to break Noah of thumb sucking right now. But giving your thumb to the thumb fairy just seems wrong...
