Our first big change is that I am now an official full time stay at home mom! Last Monday was my last day of work. I was an orthodontic assistant for 5 years! For the past 3 years I was lucky enough to have worked for an orthodontist in my stake who was extremely understanding and flexible with my situation. Since having Reese, he let me work an average of only 7 hours per week. So this past little bit has been so super part-time, but it was such a great way to transition from being a working woman over to mommy mode.
Our plan was always for me to work up until I was 6 months into my 2nd pregnancy, but we had no idea the timing would work out so perfectly...
You see, this is Tom pulling up to our house yesterday from work. But it was no ordinary drive home from work. It was his last drive home from PwC! Because this blog is public I will refrain from expressing my complete true feelings about these past 4 years and just simply say that I appreciate the experience PwC gave him, but I am very glad the "experience" is over!
Tom took a job as a Senior Accountant/Asst. Controller for a company called Renal Ventures. Because I still don't completely understand what my husband does for a living I might let him get on here later and change this section. A common conversation between Tom and me is...
Tom: "Explain to me what I do for a living."
Me: "Ummm....you count things?!"
So I'll tell you what I do know. It's a smaller private company where he will be working directly with the CFO (who actually happens to be a former PwC partner). He feels like it is a really smart career move where he can get better experience towards his personal professional goals. It's for the most part an 8-5 job (I can't even imagine), with minimal travelling, and better pay. I'm definitely excited about better pay, but I am mostly excited about having a husband again! The timing of everything honestly couldn't have worked out better. I was getting really nervous to be a "single mom" of 2 this coming January. When they called to congratulate Tom after offering him the job, one of the first things they said was, "Tell your wife she's going to be seeing a lot more of you now." Hallelujah!
This morning was a very exciting one and the happy feeling in the house was contagious. Even our normally grouchy-in-the-morning-toddler couldn't hold back her excitement.
And the normally grouchy pregnant lady even got up an made breakfast. Definitely a rarety around these parts.
I've been so nervous for him all day. I kept asking him if he was nervous and he insisted that he wasn't. I don't know...look at his face.
That's the same face he made as he told me he wasn't nervous to meet my parents 5 1/2 years ago.
Good luck Tommy! We love you!

I love that he let you take a "first day of school" photo of him.
That is so awesome - I love the fake tears. And look at happy little Reesey! I feel like we haven't seen her in forever! (*cough postmorepictures cough*) Congrats on all the happy happenings at the Bjorkman home!
ok first, are those new cars you guys are driving or am I just so out of the loop? what happened to your corolla?
second, congrats!! how exciting to be able to be married to an accountant and actually have him home!! i didn't know that existed!!
what an exciting time for your family. i'm glad it all worked out. a little sad the the job changed didn't bring you down here though!! glad things have worked out so well for you guys!!
Yay! Those are all awesome changes! I think that's all public accounting is good for, giving you the contacts and experience to get a much better job. I'm glad you'll get to see each other more, and I'm sure your girls will love having daddy around!
Cynthia, just this morning I was thinking, "Man, Reese hasn't had much face time lately." It's mostly because I haven't had a camera for so long. So more photos should be coming of the little munchkin. But as you can see I don't know how to use my new camera very well yet and that is why everything is so blurry. I accidentally had it on "close-up" all morning.
Paige, sadly we sold the corolla a few months before Reese was born. It was a beauty, but after 180,000 miles we decided to get something more reliable. Tom's car is still the same one though (unfortunately).
How nice you've been able to transition between working lady, working mom, and now mom lady. I think I'm going to have a tough time with that transition.
And yea for normal hours for Tom! It's funny about you not knowing what he does, because Todd also has a hard time telling people what I do. He has my snazzy intro down, though. Anything finance and numbers related is so hard to describe. But if you don't know what Tom does, maybe that means he's secretly Jason Bourne. Think about it.
CONGRATS, CONGRATS, CONGRATS on every single aspect of it!!!! That is seriously sooooooo exciting. Your cute little family so deserves it! I am just so excited for you. And yes, he does look a little like I felt when starting my first job...
Congrats Tom! I am with you on the "more time with the hubby" part. Money doesn't compensate for when they are gone so much.
Yay!!! That is wonderful...congrats to you guys. I am so happy for you!!!
Awesome!! I'm so happy for you! It's wonderful that everything worked out so well! ;)
Now the next step is to get Tom to come home from work and throw together a gourmet dinner for the family ;o). Yeah for a more normal life! Congrats to you both.
Change is good. Mark has just recently changed jobs also. And couldn't be happier. Everything always works out for the best.
Good Luck with all the changes!
I'm cracking up at the nervous face! I love the "back to school" comment too! Congrats on all the exciting happenings! Maybe your good fortune will rub off on us, we've been trying to ditch the company Ryan is with, buuuuuuuuut....you know how it goes. It's not our time yet I guess :)
That's awesome Rachel! Congrats...won't it be nice (even though it was only 7 hours) to make your own schedule everyday!! I loved that when I quit working! And congrats on Tom's job too- what an exciting day for your family!!
Wow you guys do have a ton of changes in the house, but they sound ALL GOOD to me CONGRATS on having the hubby home more. That will be soo nice especially with the 2nd coming!!
I have to say that I loved the day that I became a full time stay at home mom, it was like graduating from High School or something. I swear I felt a weight lift off my shoulders knowing that I didn't have to juggle my work stuff with my kids anymore. :)
Congrats on the new job. How wonderful it will be for you to have a husband who does not travel. It's one of my favorite things about Jesse's job. He is needed too much at the office for him to be sent on business trips.
That is so exciting I am glad he took the job! I can't even imagine what it would be like for you with two kids. We need to get together one of these days and let the kids play, plus we have projects to do! Congrats
Wow, so public accounting is really that bad? Russ starts next week so I guess our adventure is just beginning.........
Congratulations, Tom, on the new job. I know what it's like to have a husband working crappy hours, although I know Kevin never worked the long hours that Tom had to work. I'm so glad you get to have him back. Oh, and congratulations on your new job, Rachel.
Oh, I have a question. How do you get the updates to show on all of your fellow bloggers on your side panel??
Let me just tell you--I called Brian the minute I read your blog and told him to read it. I'm SSSOOO ready for him to find a new job--but oh wait he has to meet another deadline during this busy season (which there's like 5 during the year, not just one). I'm way happy for you guys!!
Amy
Congrats! I am so happy for you guys. Life is way, WAY better after PWC!
I think I might be the last one to comment, oh well better late than never. I am impressed that you remembered what face Tom made before he met your parents 5 1/2 years ago. I laughed out loud! That's nice of all your work people to make you a cute poster. It is a relief when you can move onto be a full time stay at home mom. I am so happy for both you and Tom! WAY TO GO!!
Nope, your not the last to comment, Hollie... Congrats on everything. That is so exciting that you get to stay home all the time! Wahoo for Reese!... and Tom. I'm so happy for you and everything falling into place. Awesome!!!
Congratulations! You have so much great stuff going on lately. Wow! Being a full time stay home mom is fun, but I will admit, there are many times when I miss working. Something about daily adult interaction...
Yay for Tom. Yay for you for being able to see more of him. That is going to be so nice. Especially with #2 coming so soon. I am so happy for you guys!
That is great that the timing just came together. I know that you love your time with Reese, and Tom, and I'm glad you get to spend more time with both of them. However, I will miss the cute video and pictures of your kids spending time with daddy after NOT seeing him for a week! Congratulations on everything!
Congrats on all your new ventures - that's so awesome that Tom will be home more!
Google reader kindly recommended your blog to me so I came to check it out.
Loved the conversation about your hubby's job. We have that conversation here all the time and 2 years on I still really don't fully understand what he's doing at work but it pays the bills!
Your mom told us about this and I'm so excited, even thrilled for you! I can't imagine! Hope all goes well.
We're so happy for you to have more family time.
Congrats! Lots of good news all over the place.
