"Napping"

Reese is a great night sleeper, but has always been a little stinker when it's come to her naps! The whole napping issue has probably been my biggest struggle as a mom. That probably sounds lame, but it has always stressed me out. When Reese was super little I had to let her scream for up to an hour for every single nap. She no longer screams or cries, but she's still not very consistent with actually falling asleep. No matter what though, she is down in her crib every afternoon for at least 2 hours whether she sleeps or not. Sometimes I'll flip on the monitor and I just hear her in there laughing and talking away. What a not even 2 year old could possibly be thinking and talking about for 2 hours in a dark room is beyond me!

During this pregnancy I've certainly taken advantage of this "quiet time" and will usually take a nap myself. On Friday though, I was abrubtly awoken to a loud banging noise. It didn't take me long to figure out that something extra exciting was going on in her crib that day.

I peaked my head through her door and saw that she was doing somersaults back and forth in her crib just giggling away. I tried to get some of it on video, but she wasn't performing to her fullest potential. She sometimes gets a little shy when I pull out the camera.

Speaking of being shy...or not being shy, I need to share what happened last week in sacrament meeting. I had to give the closing prayer and I told Tom if Reese followed me up on the stand not to worry about fighting her because I figured she'd see all those people and just bury her head into me anyway. I usually show Reese's goofy side on here, but she is actually quite shy in public. Lately anybody even says "hi" to her and she is pressed up to me with all her might. Anyway, this time I was sorely mistaken. She followed me up and as soon as she got on the stand her eyes got huge with excitement as she looked out into the crowd. I picked her up to hold her while I said the prayer and soon after I started, she grabbed the microphone with both hands and started yelling into it. I of course whipped her away and ended my prayer pretty soon after that. She got lots of compliments on what a nice prayer she gave! Such a little turkey.

I am sorry to hear about the napping thing - I am sure that was very difficult. But what a cutie pie you have! I had to laugh about her yelling into the microphone during sacrament...it is always funny when it is not your own :)

Gymnastics in her crib- that's my kind of girl! I can offer no advice on the napping issue because I was a complete failure with Riley in that area. Tell Reese to keep up with all the flips:)

At least she's entertaining herself! To me that's the secret to easy(er) parenting!

LOL about the sacrament meeting prayer.

She has got to be the CUTEST 2yo - ever! I loved her sacrament meeting prayer! That's one of those stories she will love to hear when she is older!

And BTW, in response to the pooh comment...You don't even wanna know how many movies my kids watched when I was pregnant!

Reese is such a talented little gal, and what a safe place to practice! Skylar has only recently mastered somersaults. She is so proud of herself. She was also a very slow jumper, but don't tell her. She has lots of other gifts. :) Anyway, I totally understand about something that seems silly being the hardest part about mothering. Besides the three months of exhaustion when the babies are first born, the hardest part about mothering for me so far has been trying to get my kids to eat more than mac n' cheese and cereal. I am so tired of it. Evan has started gagging up his dinner when we make him try a bite of veggies. Oh well!

That prayer story is hilarious! Kids will always surprise you (and not always is a good way).

Clayton hasn't napped in about a year now, but he is now old enough to break out of his room during his forced "quiet time". Sad. He usually comes to find me so we can hang out (grrr). That somersault thing is funny though. She's such a doll!

She is totally cute, I love it! To bad we were out of town last week so we didn't get to hear her wonderful prayer.

What a monkey! Maybe the fact that everyone's eyes were closed (or most of them, anyway) inspired her extra confidence.

Ha ha, when Coby said the prayer at Jorin's farewell, Brynn, my niece who was almost two at the time, ran up to him as he came back down from the stand and shouted, "Good job Daddy! Good job on the prayer!" Everyone laughed. That's funny about Reese. And when you said you heard a loud banging sound, I though, oh...she's figured out how to get out of the crib!!! That's next you know...

Hahaha--you totally made me laugh. I can just imagine her yanking the microphone with all her two year old strength (it still baffles me how they are so strong) and yelling away. That is hilarious. I'm sure the ward loved it and all chuckled. I also love that she was doing SOMERSAULTS--that is so hilarious!!!

I remember how hard that was when she was little...what a stinker to still be pulling the no-nap thing. Maybe she has the same gene as Dave (the man who never needs sleep). I wish I had it.

Love the prayer story... and the flips in bed. I heard once that taking naps is not always neccessary (whatever) and that it's just important to have "quiet time". I still have a hard time with Ashley and naptime. If you find something that works let me know. Good luck!

I totally understand the stress about children sleeping...it's definitely the one thing I worry most about.

Rachel, you are definitely the most popular blogger I know. I can't believe all the comments you get.

The girls were talking about their little cousin Reesie and how they want to visit her. I'm really getting excited about a Denver trip...
