When the Wifey's Away...

Nobody will bathe...

(This not only includes the child who's had macaroni and cheese sauce hardened into her hair since Friday night, but also this child's caretaker!)

The dishes will SOAK...

(Previous instruction apparently didn't help.)

And random items will be strewn about the house.

(Including crusted little people snacks smashed into the carpet. )

Oh well! Reese is alive and the house isn't burnt down!

Apparently I was refreshed from my time alone because all I could do was laugh!

(Tom got a kick out of me snapping pictures because he said it looked like I was taking pictures of a crime scene.)

That is awesome! I went camping with the girls this week and my house looked very similar. In addition to the mess I left since we left in a hurry, there was junk from Andy's laziness. I told Andy that when the pizza sauce is crusted and then flakes off the pan... it's time to do the dishes! Maybe that's part of the reason Andy and Tom got along so well! :)

This is too funny! I think Travis would do the same thing. I am glad you got to get away, it definitely won't happen after you have the baby. We still love you TOM!!!

I'm glad you got pictures of this. I love the dish soaking thing. That is something that I totally do. It makes me crazy when Kevin puts a crusty dish in the sink without putting water in it to soak.

I think this is what my house looks like even when I'm home...hmmm.

Look, all I can say is that married men have no survival skills. We spend 18 years to acquire the bare minimum that we need to live independently. Then we get thrown out of the nest, and most of us barely make it by. THEN we get married, and relinquish most of our decision making capability and independent thought. Is it any wonder that when my wife goes out of town I can't figure out how to dress myself or where the trash can is?

I love the crime scene photos! That is so funny! I'm laughing at the "soaking" history between you too...glad you have a sense of humor about it!

That is hillarious. Crime scene. Ha! Looks like everybody had fun so I guess no crime there. I know what you mean about quick/busy trips - I feel that way every time I'm in Vegas for a weekend. That there are people I should call, but you only have so much time there and there are almost always a million things goign on. No worries. Our paths shall cross again someday. :)

This is great, Rachel. These are always my EXACT THOUGHTS when I come home to a mess...hmmm, how can I stay positive about this...yes, EVERYONE'S ALIVE! A mother's ticket to sanity, I must say. Glad you had some "alone" time and hope you had fun.

Loved the skittles or m&m's on the floor. I love that you just laugh. I've come home to similar conditions! Good for you that you got a little break too!!

DOCUMENTATION!

Hope you are feeling well Rachel. Being pregnant is just... fun. I did not glow or anything lovely, virtueous, praiseworthy, and left me not seeking after doing it again.

However, I now have four so there you go. Thinking of you. Wish you were closer to help out.

For those thinking that their house always looks like this, I have to say that I swear the pictures don't do it justice. I am not a neat freak, but it really wasn't too pretty in person.

That's what my house looks like when I leave for the afternoon- I am afraid of what it would look like (and what the kids would look like) if I left for the weekend!! YIKES!
I always tell myself that dad's are supposed to have a lot of fun with their kids. . . and if that means a huge mess for mom to pick up oh well. . . (well, I tell myself that when I am in a good mood anyway)!!
