So Tom and I were out putting Christmas lights up yesterday (yeah we did it), and as we were talking we realized that today would be exactly 5 years since our very first date. We got a little nostalgic reminiscing about that night. It was the best date either of us had ever had. Of course you'd think we'd say that because we got married, but it really was. We talked for 8 straight hours! It was a big group date with all my roommates and he and I might as well have been alone because we were just in complete la-la land with each other. I remember thinking it was so refreshing not having to even try to keep up conversation. I actually had to fight to squeeze in a question before he could ask me another one about myself. When he dropped me off at my apartment that night he didn't skip a beat before asking me out for the very next weekend. And the rest is history. Well, there's definitely more to the story, but I'll save that for another time. My friend Marisa did one of those tag posts with her whole dating story which I thought was so fun. I think I'll do that sometime too.
Not that we usually celebrate our first date, but it gave us a good excuse to go out last night. We went to Coldstone and then to see "Enchanted." Alright, that's now 2 movies we've seen since Reese has been born! I'd give the movie a "medium" rating. It started out cute, then got annoying, then got really cute again. I'm a great movie critic huh? Let's just say that it was good, but I thought it would be better.
Tom putting up our Christmas lights. What a guy! Can you believe that we've been in our house for 3 years and this is our first time putting outside lights up? What a bunch of bah-humbugers we've been!
We tried to get one of those oh so cute shots of our child all tangled up in Christmas lights...not so much! She was fascinated at first when we plugged them in, but freaked out when we put them around her.

That's seriously so fun to reminisce about the reasons why you fell for each other and how you felt when you clicked. You guys are so cute! You are perfectly matched!!!
I love that you posted that picture of Reese anyway. It captures real moments and real personality. So, was I with the group on that first date of yours? Not that you'd remember, of course ;o).
That is a great idea for a post. To do the dating story! Reese is so cute! Her hair is looking so blonde! I think her hair is lighter than Kate's. So funny!
Heidi, I love that you don't remember. It's the night we went to Sarah's parents house for dinner then to some improv comedy show in Salt Lake. I guess it makes sense that it wasn't memorable for you since you weren't with your future husband. It's the date you guys helped me ask him out by texting me to come home from the library because he was at our apt. I don't remember at all who you were with. I remember Vicki, Sarah, Sherri, you, and maybe Amy (that's her name right...the one with Eddie) being there. I don't remember anybody's dates though. It was the insane marathon date that started at like 4 and didn't end until midnight. Great for me, but not so sure about for the rest of you.
This is a great post...on a side note, do you remember the name of our English teacher when we had class together that spring? Best class ever!
Merry Christmas!
way to go with the lights. i'm pretty much a scrouge this year as well. we are leaving for 2 weeks and i don't want to come back to a lot of decorations to put away.
5 years ago!! that's great. i'm not sure brent and i would even remember the exact date. i'm not sure he would even remember what we did!!
Yes, I remember that date now. And I don't remember who I was with either. I think it might have been Eddie's roommate. Was the date really that long? I remember going to see the lights on temple square too - so dang cold. I'm glad you threw in that bit about me texting you to come home from the library. Cause basically you owe your happy marriage to me ;). Didn't we have some code phrase in the text too? Like, "The bird is in the nest", or something cheesy like that. In case Tom intercepted the text I suppose! Oh fun memories.
That's cool - I had never heard your "story" before. It was meant to be! I don't know if I've ever told you this before, but your little girl is SO stinking cute. Seriously. I can't get over it.
Three cheers for your Christmas cheer, Rachel! Love the new layout, the tunes at the bottom, and the light hanging photos... And congrats on five years of knowing each other!
When you posted about you and Tom's first date I was thinking that on December 15th it will be five years since Damien and my first date as well. It is crazy how fast time goes! And congrats on the lights, Damien and I have been in our house for two years and it will probably be another few years before we do the lights, we still just have our small apartment Christas tree and probably will wait a few years for a real Christmas Tree as well! Good job!
