And Today's Secret Ingredient Is: BEETS
Other than Little People, Big World, Tom's favorite show is Iron Chef America. Call him crazy (and I do), but Tom LOVES to cook. He says he finds it relaxing. That's not exactly the word I would use. Yesterday Tom made Borsch, which is a common meal he was served on his mission in Russia. It is basically beet soup and is actually very yummy. When you think of the word "beet" (which I'm sure is often) the other word you probably think of is "disgusting," but beets are actually really good. I mean have you even tried them? I think of brussel sprouts and think "disgusting," but I've never even had them so how do I know? Anyway, I'm rambling...but if anybody is ever feeling adventurous you should try this soup. (It is quite the process and he skips the pork ribs and beef bones.)

I don't think he should lose points for "plating" since his wife did it.

Rachel - coming from a girl whose husband doesn't cook at all except for cooking a frozen pizza in which I have to tell him the step by step process, you are lucky. Even if he does make beet soup!!
You are funny. :-) I like your stories and the way you share updates in your life.
I'm more fascinated that his other favorite show is "little People, Big World". Ha, ha! Didn't the dad on that show just get caught for a DUI or something. Kind of a trend in celebrity world right now...
I love a husband who cooks! Ha ha...and I LOVE LITTLE PEOPLE BIG WORLD...total side-note there! Ha ha. So...that soup actually looks pretty good...with all that sour cream! Yummy!!
What...the dad got a dui??
It does look good, but I say "disgusting" to beets, too. It must be all the other wonderful ingredients(e.g. large onion, yum) that makes it so good. Tom will have to make soup next time we're together. Does Reese like it. Maybe you could mush it up and make baby food. Oh, I forgot, you have enough of that with all your thrify shopping.
I think it's becoming a race nowadays to post a comment on your site. You're becoming very popular. When you get a chance, can you e-mail me the recipe? I tried beets a year or so ago and really liked them. I even tried brussel sprouts, and they.....if you put enough butter and some salt on them.....are pretty good too.
