Snow Day...

from church!!! I could pretend all I want that I was sad church was cancelled. But I wasn't.  Come on, church is great, but an occasional change from the norm is really fun once in a while!  Especially when it's on a weekend and Daddy's not forced to drive in to work no matter how crazy the roads are (wifey's perspective).

I grabbed an old, super smooth board from the garage from a previous project and set it up against the stairs. Hours of entertainment I tell you!

Everett thought he had died and gone to slide heaven!

Watching them slide and laughing like crazy gave me a flood of memories from childhood with my siblings.  Mainly of the hours we spent figuring out ways to entertain ourselves during the non-church hours on Sunday.  We weren't allowed to play with friends and couldn't watch tv until later at night.  We did some pretty fun and funny things.
  • Hide 'n' Go Seek where the base was at the top of the stairs and a bazillion blankets and pillows were piled at the bottom that we had to first climb over.  I still remember that feeling of terror while trying to climb over knowing somebody was right behind me!
  • Sliding down the stairs on sleeping bags (I think it was) and boogie boards. (I won't be teaching them that one).
  • We even once wrote an anonymous love letter to a Chinese man we randomly picked out of the phone book, then threw it on his lawn. My parents were obviously napping during that one. We had an older, driving sibling drive us, and I really doubt he ever got it (or at least I hope).
Sundays with my siblings are for sure some of my best childhood memories and they make me REALLY hope and wish that my kids will have fun and be silly together and maybe even get into some occasional (fairly innocent) mischief while Mom and Dad are napping. It's good bonding.

After all the sliding and car racing
the rest of the day was spent with "bucking bull" rides,

skyping with family,
and even eating homemade Chicken Tikka Masala (not my picture, obviously),
(not an exact match, but delicious and gobbled up by all)

A well-spent snow day, indeed!

Snow days are the BEST!!! I so miss those from when we lived in Ohio and the world totally shut down. I love being forced to just relax and not have anywhere to go. You guys are such DARLING parents--your kiddos are so lucky!

You raise a good point. My kids complain about having to go without TV/computer on Sundays, but that's the day they spend the most time playing together. Even if it's sometimes mischievous and messy and makes parents a little crazy, it's great bonding and memories!

LOVE this post. I can totally picture you and your sibs getting into mischief! We have 9:00 church right now and I love it. I don't love getting up early and getting ready, but I love having a lot of time together to hang out as a family after church. Oh, and naps. Love naps. :)

I did the sliding on the stairs with sleeping bags. I too will not be showing my kids that one, plus my stairs turn and someone might hit a wall. Haha Wish we had missed a day of church for some good old fashioned family fun too!!
