We've got a new set of potty-trained, undies-wearin' buns in the house!
I bought Claire some special new underwear a month or so ago with the intent of starting the potty training process (I'm a fan of the wait until they're 3 mindset), but never quite got to it . Christmas came, children got sick, necks got cut open, blah blah blah...I always had some excuse.
But this past Monday Claire and Reese got into an argument that ended with Reese telling Claire that she was a "baby!" (The ultimate insult in this house.) Claire yelled back, "I'm not a baby!" to which Reese said, "Well, you still wear diapers!" Claire marched right upstairs, ripped off her diaper, put on a pair of undies and declared, "I don't wear diapers anymore!" And that was that. Potty training had begun.
As expected, the first day was awful. She went #2 in the potty just fine, but I was chasing her around with a towel and carpet cleaner the rest of the day wiping up pee. She finally got it in the toilet one time and exclaimed, "See! I am a big girl!"
There were only a few accidents on day 2, and by day 3 she was quite the professional potty goer.
She goes in by herself without saying a word to me and wants nothing to do with a potty seat. Those are for "little kids." She also goes in public restrooms just fine. She is so proud of herself and will invite anyone and everyone in to "watch [her] go potty." She's also informed us that she is ready to ride the school bus ("tomorrow") and floss her own teeth. Nobody's in a hurry to get big around here!
Way to go Claire!

Nothing like a little sibling throw-down to spark the fire! Congrats on another milestone!
I'm dying of jealousy!! We tried to get lucy started over Christmas but after 3 pee accidents in about 5 minutes, I gave up. I am hoping Andy will do it when I am out of town during spring break. :)
Good job Claire!!! (and you too Rachel!!)
She is too cute! I love that she just decided to do it--I think that's the best way to potty train. Oh to be the 2nd oldest and always having to keep up :)---Blake's the exact same way! I just love how I can completely capture your cute kiddos personalities through your blog. They are beyond darling!
woohoo!!! That girl knows what she wants and she goes for it. Nothings going to stop her.
Awesome sauce! Now send her over to my house to teach the secrets to my Tagen! She'll go only on "her terms" and Only when she declares it necessary... Ugh
Rachel, your commentary always totally cracks me up! And that Claire, she is funny, too. I love a girl who knows what she wants!
It's the 2nd child syndrome. They decide to do it and that's it. I'm so proud of you Claire!
Wow nothing like a little self motivation. Go Claire. I love her little feet. And I love the date ideas. That's always the hardest part. Figuring out what to do on our dates.
It sounds like the "wait until they're 3" method really worked for head-strong little Claire. I love that it was Reese's challenge that motivated her. Those manipulative older sisters sure come in handy sometimes.
