We took a last minute trip to Utah last weekend to attend a funeral. Most of you who knew him probably already know, but Wes Truman, a good friend from high school, passed away last week. It was obviously so very sad, but honestly one of the sweetest and most beautiful funerals I've ever been to. I got to see lots of old friends, and Tom and I both left feeling so uplifted and inspired by the words spoken. (You should check out his wife's blog sometime. She is incredible!)
Although the circumstances weren't exactly great, we made the most of our time in Utah by taking a trip down memory lane. We went on campus for a bit then drove by our old apartments, Wells Hall, King Henry, Sparks II (of course!), and most importantly, The Colony. Don't you love that name?! Glad I overlooked that so I could meet that handsome guy I call my husband.

(I should probably be more embarrassed that I'm always wearing one of maybe three shirts on this blog.)Right after that, our car overheated. Good times. We were first told that the radiator was cracked and spent the next day getting it looked at to see what we needed to do. Not that we were happy to be having car problems, but we were excited to stay an extra day at Tom's Aunt Sue and Uncle Doug's house. They were out of town up to that point so we wouldn't have been able to see them otherwise.
They are seriously some of the kindest and most generous people we know. We loved getting to talk with them! And their home is pretty much my dream home! My girls would agree. Reese kept saying, "Let's pretend that this is our house." I was totally on board with that. :)
Tom's cousin, Spencer, doing "magic" tricks.

The girls giving Aunt Sue their drawings. They just loved her!

Despite the car issues (which ended up not being as big of a deal as we thought...we think) it was a weekend that made me grateful to have such good, solid-in-the-gospel people in my life. Some people just really have it right.

So sorry your friend passed away. It is amazing, though, how much your attitude changes at funerals when you think about the gospel. I'm glad you were able to enjoy your trip despite the troubles. We sure love ya!
I know this isn't the point of this post, but you look so good! I think the funerals that have made the most impact on me have definitely been peer funerals. It's such a reflective experience.
I looked at the memory blog and read your and Candace's posts. I loved them. Yours was perfect.
My uncle died on the 4th of July, so we were in Utah at the same time as Wes's funeral (my mom looked up his obituary). We totally could have run into you there! I'm glad you guys went, and could spend time with family too.
Such sad circumstances to be in UT, but I think we were totally there at the same time! We spent Friday afternoon and Saturday kicking it around Provo!
Wes's story just breaks my heart. I was reading through their blog and was in tears. My kids kept staring at me. He was such a neat guy. I'm so glad you were able to go to his memorial. My heart just aches for his family.
I'm sure visiting memory lane was a blast. The good ole Colony. I have great memories of that place as well. I can't remember if we lived there at the same time??
