Roughin' It In Steamboat

Okay, so it really doesn't suck to be the Bjorkmans (that last post was written in a moment of "I really miss my husband!). And it especially didn't suck to be us 5, almost 6(!) weeks ago when my entire side of the family met up in Steamboat Springs, CO for a week long vacation (minus Jacob...some lame excuse about orthodontic school???). Can I just say how awesome it was to have everybody head out to our neck of the woods? Well, it was awesome!! Only a 3 hour drive for us and to such beauty!!

Seriously, this is my idea of an "outdoor" vacation. Go and do outdoorsy things then head back to a nice beautiful hotel. Showers, kitchens, beds. Man, I'm a priss and not a bit ashamed.

Bike Riding

Horse Back Riding
When I asked Reese if she wanted to ride a horse, her eyes lit up and she asked excitedly, "And it has wings and it flies up in the sky?!" Not quite, but even with his inability to fly, "Pee-Wee" still provided a great time. Reese stayed pretty straight faced and quiet the whole time (I'm sure because of the guy leading her), but then talked about how much she loved it.

I put Claire on Pee-Wee at the very end. Not a fan. If only he were able fly!

Family Kickball Game
Seriously, one of my highlights. I'm lame like that.
Claire recovering from being pushed out of the way by some crazy lady who was a little too into the game. I think a few of us Kochs showed our slightly competitive nature during the intense sport of kickball.

Hiking

So really I had lots of highlights, but shockingly this hike probably really was mine. Honestly, I don't usually get hiking. I don't like to hike just for the sake of walking in dirt. Which I would argue most hikes are that way. This however, was gorgeous! It was definitely the hardest hike I've been on (I'm also more out of shape than I've been in a long time), but by far the prettiest. Too bad I still don't know how to use this camera, otherwise you'd actually be able to tell just how pretty it was. The fact that I accidentally had it on close-up the whole time didn't help. Isn't that flower pretty? ;)

The hike was to the top of the mountain where a gondola would normally take you up. Towards the end when I thought I might die, the only thing that kept me going was the thought of taking the relaxing gondola down.

Alpine Slides

Fishing

Reese was very excited about her catch...."Mom! Mom! I caught a worm!!!" She and Tom actually did catch a fish right before leaving (below, right).

Lunch with the Ladies

And finally,
the Night-Life At The Steamboat Grand

Really, who needs a campfire?

Pool Time
Many a yummy....and dangerous meal.

Games at night...hilarious
If you actually got through this whole post, good job and thank you. I can't believe I'm actually about to publish this. This post took me 2 weeks. Seriously, people! My computer is lamer than lame and would freeze almost every time I would upload a picture...or type...or really do anything. Arghh! I was ready to throw my computer and give up on blogging. Turns out I'm a bloggin' fool though and I just can't stay away. Hopefully it won't be another 3 weeks. Hasta pasta.

That looks like so much fun! How wonderful most of the siblings got to spend so much time together. And that place is beautiful. I agree with you, that's TOTALLY the way to enjoy the outdoors.

Gorgeous! Is that bike trailer yours, and if so, do you like it? And if so, what brand?

Anyways, looks like a lot of fun!

Steamboat is seriously beautiful. But I think the family time is what really makes it fun and memorable! You're lucky to be so close! Looks like you crazy Kochs had a fun time! I will now end every sentence I write with an exclamation point! Oh and thanks for the bday wishes!

You know how much I LOVE Colorado!! What a beautiful place to have a family reunion. It looks like you had such a great time. I'll have to keep this one in mind for our next family get-together. (By the way...I think your pictures are fabulous. Your camera rocks!!)

I am with you on the outdoors thing. I'm good to vacation outdoors as long as I can go back to a room with climate control, a soft bed, a toilet, and a shower. How fun that most of your family could come! At least Jacob's family was represented with Shelly and kids. What a fun trip!

Wow your pics are fantastic! I love the one of your big girl on the horse (I'd make that face too!)
Thanks for sharing it ... makes me want to tour the US even more ;-)

Kick ball. I'll have to remember to suggest that for the next family reunion. Aw, that last picture with Taylor doing charades kills me. It's been probably 11 years since I've seen the comedy act, but as soon as I saw that I laughed. Then I thought of Cam on Modern Family. What I wouldn't give for a brother-in-law like him! What a great time you had, and how nice to have your family visit our beautiful state!

I'm so glad you haven't given up on blogging. Looks like a great time and I wholeheartedly agree about your theory of doing outdoor things and coming home to a nice hotel.

Last week at gymnastics one mom was talking about how she just returned from vacationing in Steamboat Springs. She said it was wonderful there.
