Callings

I don't typically blog about our church callings (not sure why?), but today I feel like it. Mostly because today was a big day. After 4 years, Tom was released as our ward's executive secretary.........and was then sustained as an early morning seminary teacher.

So the good news is that he will be around on Sundays again. Yippy! The bad news? Tom's a seminary teacher. Just kidding....ahem...err...yeah...yep, just kidding...I think. Being perfectly honest, we were both definitely surprised when the high councilman came over a few weeks ago to extend this calling. We were initially thinking/hoping that Tom would end up with something less time consuming after being executive secretary. Something like a nursery leader. Not so much.

But I can honestly say that after the initial shock wore off that first night, Tom is now really, truly excited about this new calling. Mostly excited about how much he can learn. One thing that I can for sure say about my husband is that when he gets a calling, he does it with everything he's got! He is insanely dedicated! There is not a single doubt in my mind that he will do a fantastic job. This will definitely mean an earlier bedtime for us night owls, but we both feel that it will be well worth it!

Also, I don't think I ever mentioned that I was put in as 1st counselor in Young Women's a few months ago. It's definitely busier than my previous sunbeam calling :) , but I really am liking it. The girls are super cute and such fun to work with and I really enjoy the rest of the presidency as well.

So all in all, we are going to be a busy Bjorkman bunch, but we truly are excited and ready to serve.

I thought being a seminary teacher was something you asked to be, I didn't realize it was a calling?!?! That is pretty sad when my own mom did it for years. That is very exciting. I am sure the kids will love him. He is younger and that always helps with the likability factor:)

Julie, you're right in that it used to be where they volunteered. They switched it more recently to be a calling. I'm not at all sure when though. I don't think I knew your mom was ever a seminary teacher. She would have been awesome!

Wow, guys will be busy. When my girls are in seminary I hope they have someone just like Tom for a teacher. I'm sure the kids will love him.

Wow, you will be busy. If he continues to follow in the same pattern as my brother he will be ym pres next...

He's gonna become a scripture pro!

Any you're perfect for YW. You would actually do great anywhere, you're so good with people. I'm actually needing an attitude adjustment with my calling in YW. The pres is all business, and the first day I checked into the hospital she was irritated that I didn't have the newsletter done. Sigh. Ha ha, and when I told her that I probably wouldn't be able to focus enough to do much with all the drugs in my system, she was bugged. I kinda dread having to work with her....

My mom was a seminary teacher for years, and now my dad and brother are both seminary teachers (hopefully it's not a family pattern), but they have all loved it! Good luck!

Wow that is awesome! I didn't know it for years, but apparently my dad taught seminary when we lived in Missouri. My mom was scared stiff when she was called to teach, but I think she really came to love it. Tom will be great. That's awesome that he's so excited about it.

This is one of those callings that I always initially think how great it would be and then quickly remember how challenging to prepare a meaningful lesson EVERY DAY that would keep sleepy teenagers awake. I'm sure Tom will be amazing and all the girls will want to marry someone just like him when they grow up. ;)

P.S. You are perfect for YW too--the girls will love having someone as fun as you are to hang out with and I'm sure they'll learn endlessly from your great example.
