Watching fireworks from my bedroom
I did have good intentions this year though and even stopped off at the grocery store for a pack of "Hearos" (earplugs) just in case I got a little crazy and decided to inch a bit closer to the fireworks.
Yeah, that didn't exactly happen though. (Look, even Reese is looking at me like I'm crazy.)
One thing I do do the same as everybody else on the 4th is fill my belly to its capacity. Some of us like to do that with prunes,
while the rest of us prefer to do it with Cold Stone ice cream.
Eating seems to help me through the stress this holiday brings.
Not all hope is lost for me, I do allow sparklers on the 4th, even though our city says they're illegal...Tom!!! Reese!!! Hoodlums!
See!!! Nothing good comes from fireworks!
I did actually make it outside this year late at night which is always a big step for me. We live next to a big open field where you can see fireworks all across the city and from a Rachel-approved-distance.

Do you see that smile on my face? Happy as a clam.

So, any takers for hanging out with me next year? No?! Well, lucky for me I've got this hottie who very willingly sacrifices every year and snuggles right up next to me even if it is miles and miles away from all the actual festivities.

Now that's true love.

even from your far away sitting area, you were more festive than us! we decided to stay inside during the fireworks and let our kids sleep. we could hear them outside but couldn't see any. and we didn't even do sparklers!
and i'm jealous that you are not only in a sweatshirt, but also under a blanket. i think by the time our fireworks started, it was still 95 degrees! that is something i miss about good old Co!!
you crack me up! Ry and I wouldn't miss fireworks for anything! Glad you found Tom to sit with you :)
Ok, so who'd you get to take your picture at the grocery store? That's the real reason Reese is looking concerned. As for you and distant fireworks, I'm glad to know some things never change.
I was thinking the exact same thing as Heidi but she beat me to the punch, darn it! Well Happy 4th. We had it nice and loud. :)
It was just Tom taking my picture at the store. Nerdy of me I know. He was rather embarrassed. But like I've said before, I have lost all my pride when it comes to the blog. I didn't take my camera to the store for that purpose...we were out and about doing other 4th festivities so I already had it in my diaper bag. Never can tell when you'll need it though! ;)
Although Ryan loves the fireworks, Madilyn is following in your footsteps so we might have to spend the next 4th together so Madilyn isn't so scared!
You know, you just may need to invest in a cell phone with a built-in camera. Nokia 6180 from T-mobile.
Rachel, you were on my mind this year as we were celebrating the 4th. I was hoping you were okay, and remembering when Audrey had the same fear for years on end. Now, at 9, she is over it though, so I think you can advance to the next step. ;) Sounds like you've set some worthwhile goals for next year...can't wait to hear how it goes!! Cute video of the girls in the crib together, too. Love those giggles.
