Freezin' Our Buns Off!!!

This was Reese when she was about 2 1/2 months old. And I'm pretty sure this is exactly how she was feeling again just a few days ago.

Our furnace went out Sunday afternoon while we were at church. Thankfully, our handy-man friend Ryan Mattinson was able to come over that night to diagnose the root of the problem. Unfortunately though I had to wait until the next morning to actually do anything about it.

This is what our thermostat read all day Monday, and I honestly don't think it shows any lower than 60 otherwise it would have! I was freezing even with my extra layer or two of fat, so it made me so extra sad to see poor little Reesey shivering away (she really was). She must have inherited some of my used-to-warm-weather-Vegas-blood.

I swear it was warmer outside so we just left the house to run errands for the whole morning. Then in the afternoon we stayed warm by taking warm baths then snuggling upstairs in my bed while watching tv.

This was her outfit after her bath. The bottom layer consisted of a long sleeve onesie, thick cable tights, and socks. Then her outer layer of course was these fleecy pj's and her winter coat.

So my other job on Monday other than trying to keep my daughter and myself warm was to track down a new little part for the furnace, which of course no regular stores seemed to carry. I called a ton of different heating guys and finally found one that didn't want to rush right out and charge me $100 just for the visit. He instead told me a super simple way that would hopefully fix the problem and what I would need for it.

So I tracked down the stuff to fix it (only $3) and later that night, my typically not so handy-man husband came home to see if he could put it back together and get it working. I have to be honest and say that I had maybe 10% confidence in him, and was pretty certain that we were going to have to pay to have a heating guy come out the next day. But oh wifey of little faith was proven wrong...

He did it!

By the way, have I ever mentioned that my daughter has NO FEAR? With people yes, but when it comes to doing anything by herself...no way! I had to chase her down countless times from making her way up the ladder to go "help" her daddy out.

Okay, now for some of you this may be no big deal and may have been something simple. But for the Bjorkmans to not have to pay an arm and a leg to get something fixed..................was cause for CELEBRATION!!!

So we headed out to Sonic to pick up some freezing cold ice-cream that we could now enjoy back in our toasty warm house.

And enjoy we did! And in only one layer of clothing!

When we were newlyweds we lived in a ghetto duplex in Phoenix. Within one week, the air conditioning, water heater, and gas stove all went out. 120 degrees, ice cold showers, and near death by carbon monoxide poisoning (no joke)...what a winning combination. Needless to say, we moved soon after. :)

Last winter - right after Christmas - our furnace completely broke down. It was so cold in our house that it got below 45 during the day!!! I feel for you completely because I remember how it felt. Good for you for only spending 3 bucks though - that is way less then we spent!!! Good for Tom.

I am so amazed that Tom was able to fix it. I would feel the same way about Bret fixing our heater :-). I can't believe how cold it is there. We still have our A/C on?!? Reese looks so cute just climin' up the ladder like it was no big deal. What a brave girl! I love that you were all layered up and keeping warm together. so cute!

Oh wifey of little faith, you're funny. Glad you're not a RachelPop anymore. And glad that it didn't happen in -30* weather. Or with a newborn in the house!

That happened to us once in one of the ghetto apartments we lived in. I feel for ya! Yay for Tom being able to fix it though!

Boooo for no heat...yeah for Tom's amazing handyman skills. I'm glad you were able to get it fixed without paying an arm and a leg. I guess that is one nice thing about renting, you don't have to fix things yourself (or pay to have them done!) Oh, and I miss Sonic. They don't have any around here!!

I always say that I would much rather be cold then hot, (I think that it is easier to warm up then to cool down) but when you are chilled to the bones and hot cocoa doesnt even help- it can be pretty miserable! Congrats to Toms acheivement in the hanyman department!:)

Great job, Tom. I have to admit that whenever Kevin says he will fix something, I always have my doubts. I'm glad you are warm again. I HATE being cold. I loved going to BYU, but I hated being cold ALL OF THE TIME.

Way to GO TOM!!!!!!!!!!!!! He deserves some lovin for this one! What's this that I heard Tom is going to be the new Stake Pres? Travis' dad just got out of the Stake Presidency after 10years and it was a long road. You will receive many blessings! Hang in there! This is so funny that Reese had to wear her winter coat in the house!

that's pretty impressive. i probably would have broken the ladder on the way up to the attic and then that would have made the whole ordeal even worse! hope things have warmed up for you. if not, just come to texas. i think the coldest we have gotten so far is 75 degrees!!

Congrats on a warm house! We had the AC go out in our home in July one year. We couldn't sleep at all - I don't know which is worse! Did you tell Tom how sexy it was that he fixed it? I think I've got to play up the fix-it appeal with Jake!

What a pain! I'm glad you got it fixed. Did you see that Extreme Home Make-Over when they re-did a house for someone who had a disease where they needed the house set to 60 degrees all the time??? I was dying for the family members who had to put up w/ that. Thank goodness your back to warm again!

Thanks for the comment on my blog... I love that you have as much faith in Tom as I do in Andy... well you probably have more faith. I would have just clenched my jaw and forked over the $100! I'm glad your nice and toasty now. Is it snowing there yet?

Impressive. I think our guys are really making progress. Steve has recently fixed the dish disposal and built storage above the garage for us. I've learned all they need is a little confidence.

And to top it off with a celebration of Sonic, well, you're just my kind of people:)
