4th of July--Rachel Style

Those who have known me for a while probably would have thought I had outgrown my fear of fireworks by now. But nope! 28 years old and this is still how I like to enjoy my 4th of July---watching through a window and/or at least a couple of miles away. Every year I tell myself that I'll try and inch a little closer to try and outgrow this. Umm...maybe next year. :)

Watching the big "Reunion" fireworks show above the housetops on a chair up in my bedroom (still only have the use of my lovely camera phone)

ALL fireworks are illegal where we live. And I have never been happier to be a such a law abiding citizen! We did get together with our friends the Mattinsons and light a few sparklers though. I know, wild and crazy! But believe it or not, even sparklers are illegal here. Dumb.

I did a little internet research and found that there is a phobia termed ligyrophobia which is the fear of sudden loud noises. So I'm not completely psycho. I even finally met someone with the same fear. Some of the symptoms I found listed that I can relate to are breathlessness, sweating, and heart palpitations. I even put earplugs in during thunderstorms. I do hope to outgrow it someday, but in the meantime I'm lucky to have a super sweet and understanding husband who has year after year sacrificed some of his 4th of July fun for me.

Hope the rest of you had a great holiday! Maybe Tom and Reese can come celebrate the 4th with some of you next year! ;)

Are you still afraid of balloons popping, too? I remember that one. That's crazy that ALL fireworks are illegal where you live. It should be that way here with how dry it is.

Why get over it? Aside from the 4th of July who cares? Besides, your kids will love being able to better pyros since daddy is more likely to let them light fireworks while mommy is hiding in the house ;o). By the way, looks like my boy prediction is winning out strong.

That is so funny! I just love you! I think that your fear of loud noises is so adorable. I definitely think you should not now move to Ohio because we have the LOUDEST lightning and thunderstorms that I have ever heard. Bummer. That really puts a damper on my 5 year plan...so maybe I'll just move to you then?

Send Tom and Reese to Vegas next
4th of July. We'll have a lot of fun and you can stay inside with Daisy and Molly. They feel the same way as you. They(Tom & Reese & Buster) can help Michael and Dad burn the house down with their late night fireworks event(legal ones of course). I think we should have of an annual event at the house on the 4th of July.

I wish I could have seen a few fireworks, but I was hiking up the hill behide Black Mountain, because the "view" was so spectacular. I better start on my exercise program for the next "David" event. I think he's trying to kill me off, so his kids don't end up getting "trapped" into baking cookies at "Sherie's Sweat Shoppe".

Ha, I didn't know this about you! How sad you have to watch fireworks from inside. But it makes for a great picture and post. Did Reese inherit this phobia from you? It's so sweet Tom stays inside with you. I love that.

And I can't believe all fireworks are illegal where you live. How un-American. ;)

I had no idea that you had a fear of fireworks! I guess it is good thing that they are illegal were you live.

Aww man sorry but I must say I laughed at the picture of you looking out the window! Love it! I love learning about peoples little quirks! I have many. Is it just in your area that they don't allow fireworks, cause I think they still sell them in Parker. I was wishing we had been out that way for the 4th cause I am sure it was not as hot there as here!!

That's okay if you never change. When your kids get old enough they will probably want to leave you behind though. I am glad you guys had a fun weekend. I haven't heard back about what camera Tom wants to get you?

I don't know if you remember or not...but I'm also scared of fireworks. Taylor is old enough now that he thinks it is kind of funny. I'm not scared of the noise. I'm scared of the actual firework. Bummer! Candace K.

What a great picture of you, Rachel. Priceless. I can't believe sparklers of all things! Reese is looking so grown-up. Did her eyes turn brown?
