Reese is exactly 18 months old today so I decided that it would be a good day to do another "Little Piece of Reese" post. She is changing so much and it has been so fun to watch all her latest developments.
Unfortunately this was the best shot we got when the candles were lit. She was freaked out because she had just barely stuck her fingers in the candle's flames. (The half candle is hidden behind the full one.)
She realized that there was some yummy stuff under those scary candles after all.Just like when she was 9 months old I want to write down some things that I want to remember about her.
- She is saying quite a few words and will repeat most things we say at this point. Some words are only understood by mom and dad though. The cutest thing she says is when it's time for bed she'll turn to Tom and me and say, "Night guys." It makes us laugh every time. Other words include "show, bite, down, shoes, cheese, sippy, eat, baby" and a whole bunch more.
- She likes to put all her babies and even daddy to bed by tucking them in with her blankies and pacifier. I've even seen her put crackers down for "night night." I don't know...she's crazy.
We of course caught this the second time around since we didn't have our camera ready the first time she did it. But originally Tom was just lying there and she did this all by herself. And "boppy" is her word for pacifier. - Her favorite song is "Black Horse and a Cherry Tree." She rocks out to it every time she hears it in the car or wherever. Her face is so serious when she dances to it, but her body flails from side to side and back and forth. If you're just dying to hear it, it's just off to the right. Just push the play button.
- She's funny because in certain settings she can be so shy and totally just cling to me, but when we're out in a giant public place like a grocery store, she's not afraid to talk to anybody. She says "hi" to everybody she passes and YELLS "bye" over and over again as we're leaving the store. I've seriously had up to 5 people at the same time laughing and saying "bye" back to her. Her favorite people to say hi to for some reason are grumpy old men. She will repeat it until they look up and say hi back. One time in Target, Reese and some other little person the next aisle over started yelling "Bye!" to each other over and over again while laughing their heads off.
- Her favorite food is Mexican. Her absolute favorite meal is Taco Bell's beef soft taco. I'll give her a bite then she immediately yells "bite" before she's even swallowed the last. She also LOVES chips and salsa. She licks the salsa off the chips at Chili's.
Here she is enjoying some chicken enchiladas. - Anytime she hears anyone laugh she cracks up and will continue fake laughing over and over again acting like she just heard the funniest joke.
- Like most children, she really likes "talking" on the phone to her imaginary friends. She's very animated (wonder where she gets that from?). She blinks her eyes a lot, paces, and uses hand gestures and repeats "bye, bye" over and over again. My favorite thing that she does with the phone is when she grabs the stake directory, a pen, holds the phone between her ear and shoulder and proceeds to make very important phone calls all the while writing little notes in the stake directory. She has apparently been watching her executive secretary dad in action.
- She is quite feisty. I know I've mentioned that before, but wowsers! Sometimes she's disciplined for it, but sometimes it's just plain funny and I can't help but laugh. She loves to tell everybody "no, no." This includes people, dogs, and inanimate objects. A couple weeks ago at church she ran up to a little boy who was banging his hand against the water fountain, and she very sternly said to him, "no, no" then put one finger up to her lips and said, "Shhhh."
- She is obsessed with shoes. As soon as she wakes up in the morning she runs and grabs her shoes and insists that we put them on. Even if it's over her PJs.

- Her favorite game is falling flat on her face.
Happy 18 month birthday Reese! We love you lots, but we are also VERY excited for the oh so important Nursery Milestone that we've finally reached!

Happy Half Year Birthday - That means we get your in nursery now full time!!!! YEAH.
It is so fun to read your list. I wish I had done this earlier with both of my kids. Good thing they are both young enough not to realize how little mommy can remember! I really think that if Kessa was younger they would be best friends. I just kept thinking about Kessa while reading about Reese.
How cute...I cant wait til Little Billy becomes more interactive...you guys must have so much fun
Rachel, can I just say that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your blog!!!
What a cute post!
Reese has always seemed so much older to me not because she's big(cause she's so cute and itsy bitsy) but she is really, really smart for only being 18 months!!
Reese eating those enchiladas.. what a crack-up!
You can tell she has you both wrapped around her tiny little finger!!!!
She is so adorable!!! I also cant believe she is just 18 months! She must have an older spirit! Our little owen has just started to really enjoy falling down, eccept onto his back. It scares me though because he doesnt pay attention to where he is at and has almost fallen off our bed. She is such a character! Charish every moment, they grow up so fast!
Happy 18 month Birthday, Reese. She is really smart, Rachel. I can't believe she is just barely nursery age. I love the videos, and "night guys" cracks me up every time she says it.
She is so so so cute! Isn't it funny how little kids are obsessed with their shoes? What is so fascinating about them anyway?? So fun to read about all the things she is doing right now- I wish I could remember better what Riley was like at that age. Happy half Birthday Reese!
I just want to squeeze her after seeing all of those dang cute videos!!! She is absolutely adorable. I love all of the cute, funny, precious things you wrote about her! I love that she is already so girly and talks on the phone like you. It's so cute!
I loved hearing more about cute little Reese. That video of her putting Tom to sleep is so adorable. I love hearing how she forces laughs and acts like she gets the joke. Jude does that a little, too, and it's so funny. She is the cutest thing!
I loved reading those! She sounds so fun! And she's a mexican food junkie already huh? Well, she has good taste!
Great post...I love reading about her little personality. We can't wait to see Reese in just two months. She and Jocelyn are going to have so much fun together.
Just over from the blogapalooza emails. Fun to get to know. Cute little girl with a cute name!
Yay nursery! That is so nice! Fun post, I liked learning about your sweet little girl! She is so cute!
hey, I'm here to virtually introduce myself too. I'm also going to blogapalooza. Reece is sure cute. She has great taste. I love "Black Horse and a Cherry Tree."
Rachel, cute post. Happy 18 months to Reese.
One of my twins has a shoe fetish. We had to put flip flops over her feet pj's-- not an easy task.
I love the video of her eating enchiladas. Too funny. I love this age. Such fun, but a little 'tude too. ;)
I can barely celebrate my kids birthdays let alone their half birthdays! you are a better mom than me that's for sure. Reese is such a little cutie. And there is nothing like sitting in Relief Society alone for the first time in a while with no kid distractions! I hope you get to enjoy it!!
Yes, Reese definitely has Tom and I wrapped around her little finger! That's for sure.
Paige, I don't know that we will always celebrate half birthdays. That's definitely a perk of being the first child.
And also this 1/2 birthday is extra special since it means she can go into nursery. :) And unfortunately I don't ever get to go to Relief Society, but it does mean that I won't have to balance Reese on one hip or wrestle her all the while conducting primary, doing sharing time, running around finding primary subs. (Tom's always busy too with his calling stuff.) So yippy for us! I know it sounds like I'm complaining and I am. Sadly, I've grown to HATE Sundays because all it means is a giant headache. So hopefully this will help a little.
Yeah! Nursery, here you come, Reese! I forgot how close in age Reese and Bridger were (Bridger turns 18 mo on the 18th). It was fun to read what things she is doing and compare. She reminds me a lot more of Baylie, maybe it's a girl thing. It seems like she has grown up a lot in just a few months. OH, and I'm so jealous of all her beautiful, flowing hair!
Getting them to the Nursery age is monumental for us Mom's at church! She is so stinkin cute, she reminds me a little of how my Lexi was at the age, I think it must be an oldest child thing :)
Happy 18 months of life, Reese! You ALL are going to love nursery so much. I can't wait until October when Nathan can go...not that I'm counting or anything.
A few things. First, Reese impresses me with her ability to feed herself with a spoon. Second, congrats on the nursery milestone. I look forward to it. Third, that dessert looks really good. Finally, I love putting Brady on my lap and having him watch your videos of Reese. I turned up the volume and he came running from the other room with a big grin. They will be so cute together...someday.
She is hysterical, and precious as can be! Skylar was obsessed with shoes at that age too, but now she just loses them! I love the falling flat on her face routine. Also, I'm so glad you caught her putting Daddy to bed. That was so precious! I think it is so funny that she likes Mexican food, including salsa. What one year old likes salsa???
