Say that tens times fast!
So I'm starting to have issues with Google Reader and feeling like it's a huge check-list for me to get through. I don't like that that's how it feels for me now. I kind of miss just randomly clicking on people's blogs and either being happily surprised or disappointed with whether or not they've updated. Does anybody else feel this way? Apparently my time is not very valuable and wasting lots of it is really fun for me.

The only thing I don't like about Google Reader, is that it sometimes takes hours before it shows a new post. I want to know NOW if someone has posted!! :)
Google Reader has changed my life. :) (Thanks again, Rachel, for the tip) I spend waaaay less time on blogs since I never waste time "hoping" people have updated. Now I just know.
The problem I have with google reader is that I read all the updated ones and never actually go to the blog. I don't leave comments, I don't look at the cute layouts, I don't look at the sidebars, I don't listen to the music...I've become a greedy blogger.
I guess I should say I love google reader other than when I get behind. Because then I kind of freak out and get overwhelmed until my list says "There are no unread items". And that shouldn't excite me, but it does.
I agree with missing the excitement of randomly finding that someone has a new post. I miss that with Google Reader. At the same time, I'm not neglecting my kids as much as when I started blogging, and that's a lot more important to me.
See, and I hate it when it says there are no unread items. But I'm still not sure that I trust it completely. So sometimes I click through my list anyway, when I have time. But I know what you mean - sometimes it feels like "You need to read the following blogs, so do it. Now." Also I'm finding that I comment less now, which I don't like. But other than that I like it.
I'm actually new to Goolgle Reader, but I find it gives me an opportunity to explore blogs as well. Some blogs that I really like I have Google Reader update me when someone else writes about that blog and then I get to read/ explore other blogs through that. I do still click on the actual blog when there is an update though, I like seeing if there are any differences to the layout.
I agree that Reader is more of a checklist, but I love that I don't have to experience the disappointment of not seeing a new post. I do miss seeing all the other stuff on people's blogs, so I often go to them for that reason. I have been meaning to tell you I'm glad you took the music off yours. That's kind of a blog pet peeve of mine. Reader is great for that reason. If I want to listen to music, I'll just turn on my own via Windows Media Player.
Jess that's funny. I've heard a couple people say that they don't like the music on the blogs and that's one of the reasons I took it off. But I always ask those people why they don't just turn their sound down/off to begin with while searching through blogs if it bugs them so much. My main reason for leaving it off though was because it was a pain to take off each time I had a video on a post.
I have another comment about the playlists - I can't stand them either. The reason I don't like them is because I listen to my own music while I'm on the computer, and when I get to a blog with music playing, it fights with my music. Simply turning the sound off doesn't help because then my music gets turned off as well. So I have to go searching that person's blog for their playlist so that I can turn it off. I'd rather just read posts without "fixing" people's blogs before I do.
I hear you Em. Very valid point. I will probably continue to leave it off because of all that I have heard that don't like it.
I feel the same... it is a task. I only open it like twice a week now. Too stressful for me!
