Pretty Country

A couple weeks ago we went on a family outing in search of some "pretty country".
Tom's plan was to take the back/long way to Estes Park so we could see the fall leaves. Adding more time to the normal 1 1/2 hour drive along windy roads with a child who throws up if we're in the car longer than 30 minutes didn't sound all that fun to me. But I decided to keep my mouth shut (crazy, I know!) and go with the flow.

And guess what? It was awesome! Not only did Reese not throw up, but she even deemed it "the best family trip EVER!"

All the beautiful, yellow aspens.

Our fearless explorer

And now for the part that really made it "the best family trip ever!": We saw this gorgeous church right along the way and decided to pull off to get a closer look.

(A statue of Christ right off to the side of it)
Just as we got to the base of the stairs of the church we saw a moose family eating about 40 feet from us. So cool!

A picture of the girls with the moose in the background per Reese's request because "Nobody will ever believe us!"
We were later told by a man working at the church (who sat there watching the whole time(!) as we and 50 other people were taking pictures) that we were very lucky nobody got hurt. Apparently I'm not current on my moose etiquette as I didn't know how dangerous they could actually be. Good to know after the fact, sir. Claire now tells the story that "we almost got killed-ed!"

The rest of the day was spent exploring and chasing Everett down the streets of downtown Estes.

Kickin' it with his new friend.
We had so much fun! It really was one of those rare, perfect family days without any kinks. Not even death by moose.

That story is so funny! I really can't believe that you saw moose! What a fun family day. Don't you just love the days that work out just the way you plan? Rare, but great!

The trees are glorious! Hooray for a fun family outing. The moose are so cool! I'm glad they didn't maul you (or whatever it is moose do that is dangerous). How funny the guy thought they were dangerous but didn't say anything to the crowd.

That is so funny the guy said that to you because I was thinking the same thing as I was reading your post. Never seen a moose in person before, but I've heard how dangerous they can be. Glad nobody was attacked. Btw, I especially love the picture of E in what looks like he just bit the dust. Cute!

Have I told you how in love with your Colorado life I am right now? Ever since we visited you in August, I've had Western envy. Your trip looks perfect. You can't top that scenery, or the company. :)
