Everett is a B-O-Y! Every stereotypical thing that has ever been told to me about little boys IS Everett. And I'm exhausted!
A day in the life of Everett usually includes:
-Dragging chairs across the room to climb to new exciting locations
We finally had to move the girls' craft table after he figured out that our house alarm buttons were now just within his reach. Pulling out the art supplies 20 times a day was one thing; being able to call the fire department with one push of a button was another.
-Playing his favorite game-"How many utensils can I frantically throw out before Mommy can get to me?"
-Eating crayons and all other non-edible objects (not that that is a boy thing)
-Taking full advantage of left open bathroom doors (and open toilet lids!)...
-And now that he can, he just goes straight to opening the doors himself. A large portion of his day is spent opening and closing them and trying to escape out to the garage. This makes for an unhappy kid now that we dead-bolt that door. Other than a baby gate and one safety lock under the kitchen sink, we didn't have to do much baby-proofing for the girls. E. Tom is changing all that!
He definitely keeps us on our toes! But that's not to say that Everett does all the exhausting/tormenting around here. He definitely gets his fair share back.
He used to start crying anytime Claire would come near him. But recently, he has learned to love and even embrace all the crazy. They are quite the little duo! Tom and I are scared.
Another boy stereotype that many friends have told me about that has held true, is that Everett is a cuddler! Do I even need to say how much I love that? He lays his head down and lets me scratch his back. Of course those cuddles don't always last too long. He has destructive work to do, afterall. But I certainly take them whenever I can. He'll often take a break from whatever he's doing and just come lay his head on my lap for a quick second. He is so so sweet! And oh how he loves his Reesey!A few other random things about this little BOY of mine:
*He loves his blankey! He giggles when he sees it and giggles even more when he snuggles into it at nap/bedtime.

*He goes to others quite easily, but he'll let you know when he wants me. He's starting to smack Tom in the face when he'd rather be with me. I shouldn't think it's funny, but I do.
*He is our "worst sleeper!!!", says Tom dramatically. He takes great naps, but he still wakes up at 5 every morning. Yes, 5! He gets ignored until 6:30. He may fall back asleep sometimes, but I'm not sure. It has been months and months of consistently letting him "cry it out". The conclusion: he's an early riser and there ain't nothin' I can do about it. He's learned to be pretty patient while waiting for his sleepy parents to respond.
*He's been my slowest to get teeth. I haven't been good with keeping track, but I don't think he got his first one until he was 9 or 10 months. Now at 13 months his 5th and 6th are starting to pop through.
*He loves cars and balls and throwing and banging on things. I've been amazed at how instinctive this all seems to be.
*Diaper changes are IMPOSSIBLE. I hate them. Tom likens the experience to calf roping at a rodeo.
*About 20 times a day, he sticks one arm straight up while looking up at the sky/ceiling and making a "cccoooo" sound. Tom said it best when he said it sounds like Darth Vader breathing.
*He eats most anything. His favorites seem to be bananas, blueberries, strawberries, and hot dogs. Although, no matter what you put in his mouth, he first looks shocked/horrified, thinks about it, then opens his mouth for "Mah (more)!".
*He doesn't say too much. His first real consistent word was "uh-oh" followed by "ah-duh"(all done). He'll copy several other sounds like "soft" while jabbing the guinea pigs in the eye. He says mama and dada, but I don't think he really means them yet.
*People are always commenting about how chill he is. It probably doesn't sound like it from my above descriptions, but he really does have an overall chill and easy-going demeanor. He's just BUSY!
If you've read all this, thank you. And I'm guessing there's no need for me to state that I'm obsessed and in love with this baby! So yes, while he is physically exhausting, there is something so fun about this stage and I would be totally fine if he stopped growing and never turned into a stinky teenage boy.

I could just copy your post & put shafer's name in & his pictures. The girls are even the same. Shafer goes to Makenzie for sweetness & Ady for a party.
Everett is too cute love the post!!!
Adorable :o)
I hear you! Night and day, really. I love the pic of E on the craft table. And what a sweet video with Reese. I promise I haven't forgotten about your pictures. Moving in T-minus 24 hours! Then kids are back to school next week, then I resume normal life, right?!?
So girls don't do all those things as much? You give me hope! Ha, the only thing you didn't mention was an obsession with plugs, jumping off of things, and throwing stuff at the ceiling fan. Maybe those are more advanced boy interests...and they are coming. :)
So cute! My kids want to watch the videos over and over. They all came to watch!!!
He is so adorable! I love his little laid back chill personality and yet like you said...he is always on the go. I'm so glad that I got to meet him last month!!! Fun post!
With our youngest, when she wakes up too early (which is not daily, but does happen) we just give her board books (since any other book she'd tear apart). Not sure if that would work for Everett, but it is worth a try. He is adorable.
I love your "all about " posts you do for your kids. E Tom is quite the character, and we can wait to see him in just a few weeks!
Oh my!!! It was like you had written my day verbatim :). These crazy boys!!! They are equally adorable as they are mischievious, right??
I love that diaper bum picture...priceless! I always say moms of boys are the brave ones. :)
Amen. For the first time ever I was stressed about flying with kids without Steve thanks to My little guy. I loved this post and all the great details about E. Tom. And if it counts for anything I vote that you do blog about your vacations:)
Boys boys. Even Anthony shakes his head at all the crazy things boys do and how much easier girls are to raise. I asked him how he feels about belonging to the more difficult species. He just laughed and pointed out that the care-free attitude of boys can be refreshing and mentally healthier in the long run. It always helps to remember the pluses too for sure.
Oh man I'm having flash backs to when my twins were this age. I remember just being blown away by what they touch and get into. My daughter never would have even considered most of them. Its a crazy busy time but like you said you just adore them especially those cuddles. My boys are almost 5 and they still love to be held and cuddled. I love it.
I loved this Rachel! I'm glad to know Caleb is normal!!! I was seriously beginning to wonder :)
Hey, at least those knobs to your stove are out of his reach. How do they learn to move chairs around so quickly??
