Everett's sleep has been so much better! I don't think that we're completely in the clear, but we're making great progress. His naps have been good and long, and night time has been a lot better too. Yesterday morning I woke up at 6 completely rested, but in a panic wondering if he was okay. I had to go check and make sure he was still breathing. You know the drill. It felt great (after I saw he was breathing of course)! We'll hope this keeps up!
Me and lack of sleep definitely have not been going well together this past month. But Tom totally hit it on the head the other night when he came into a room where I was working on something and said, "I came to a realization today. Having a project is like therapy for you." It's totally true. Having a project to be excited about can almost feel better than sleep. It's a total outlet. I think most women like to escape the constant changing of poopy bums with something. Some like to read, some like to exercise (neither of those are mine!). Or if you're my mom 20 years ago, you like to bake pumpkin rolls into insanse hours of the night. ;) My friend Amie even has a blog called "Crafting Is My Therapy".
My current therapy session:
It looks kind of crazy in these pictures, but I'm totally excited about it. (This is Everett's room, by the way...the wall behind the crib. And excuse the sadder than usual pictures. All I have is my friend's portrait lens right now so I can't zoom in or out. I was backed up as far as I could go...too much info.)I remember seeing chevron wall stripes in the blog world a year or so ago and not thinking much of it. But then I saw this nursery (below) and fell in love with the idea. Everett's room has been painted for a while now, but I decided to add some striped fun-ness to it.
(Not mine!)
And oh don't you worry, there will of course be a BIG "REVEAL"!!! Although please don't be expecting anything as amazing as this adorable grey and yellow one.I would love to hear what you do for mom "therapy"!!

crafting or projects used to be my therapy. i don't think i've done a project since payton was born! She's now almost 22 months. So sad. But I think for now in the craziness of my life, reality tv is my therapy because then I can watch it when I have down time and watch other people's life and realize mine isn't so bad!!
glad the sleep issues are getting better. i think as a new mom, there's nothing better than a couple of hours of uninterrupted sleep. please, i'd love a couple of hours now and i'm not even a new mom anymore!!
I love it! I wish you would come to my house for therapy...
My therapy is definitely running...oh how I miss it when I am pregnant. When I am particularly cranky my husband has been known to suggest I go for a run. :) I also love music...going to a concert, opera, musical etc. always feeds my mommy soul as well.
That looks awesome, Rachel! You can also have some therapy sessions at my house any time.
I'm on the computer all the time. It's not as productive as your hobby, but it's my one thing that helps me relax and have a break.
What a fun room! The zig-zags will be so cute. I'm so glad he's sleeping better, and that you've found time for your therapy.
My therapy is definitely sewing and exercising (though not together; if I could do that, it'd be bliss). And I have to watch TV while exercising.
For a minute you had me fooled and I thought the final photo was YOUR finished product. :) I was quite impressed. I love the zigzags and have no doubt the finished project will look just as good!
Hey girl! That is such a great idea! I can't wait to see the finished product. I'm glad the sleeping has been getting better. I hope it continues and you can be a well rested mommy on a regular basis again.
My therapy... running is of course my first choice. Andy has also suggested that I go for a run when I'm snippy with him. However, when the weather seems to be less than appealing I like to cross stitch or pull out my sewing machine. I love doing rag quilts because the projects seem to be done within a few days at most. Love projects that are short!
Can you fly down here and paint Hailey's room for me? Yes I have the time, but I definitely do not have the creativity. Definitely. I'll even babysit all three & not just the older 2 while you do it!!! Peas?? :)
I can't wait for the big reveal. I'm glad your sleep training is successful. Feeling rested makes all the difference!
Pretty sure my therapy is coming up with fun things to do with my kids and then doing them (atleast it makes me feel like I'm doing something worthwhile and still having fun at the same time.) Love the zig-zags by the way. And I love your blog, too.
Love this! I wish crafting was my therapy but I suck at it so mine is running/exercising (and cruising other people's blogs!)
His room is going to look fantastic!
I realsie I need a "project" to plan or look forward to or I get very lost. These include family holidays or working on the house.
I am glad you have a project to make you feel good.
I had to come back and comment on this post because I think it is AWESOME. (I hate when I read a post on my phone and then forget to come back and comment.) I love the chevron wall. Are you doing grey and yellow like the pic? Love that. I'm doing my bedroom grey and yellow. Just as soon as I have a house to put it in.
Oh how I would love to paint a room in a house I own. Maybe one day. I can't wait to see how it turned out. I love even the crazy pictures. I wish I could say I have a good therapy. I'm in need of one starting today would be good. I would probably say reading or crafting helps me not think about all I need to do.
oh my word that is so so cute! I love it! I have a few projects & my house you could work on:)
I have found that I have to go back and forth during the day between doing kid things and adult things. I want to spend time with my kids and show them love, but after a certain period of time I get tired and bored. So they have to have self-play time while I do my "project" - which may be housework, blogging, or most recently doing planning for their neighborhood preschool.
So yeah, I totally agree with you on how a project can engage the senses and give you energy. It's ironic though how a really really good project can suck in you so much that you devote late hours to it and then end up even more sleep deprived! What can you do? :o)
This is good insight. I'll take this stuff into consideration for when I have my no-sleep days. Don't you do fun things for the house? Like the "playroom rules" and "family rules". I want to make one of those. They are fantastic.
:)
