Because of the chicken pox, the girls weren't able to come to the hospital to meet Baby Brother. Something about them not wanting chicken pox to be spread throughout the hospital. Weird. We tided Reese and Claire over by sending several videos from my phone to my mom's. My mom said they watched each video 30+ times!
Initially, there was a lot of back and forth between the nurses and doctors about the different levels of concern with bringing a newborn home to chicken pox. The final doctor (pediatrician) we talked to was the advice we went with. He felt pretty confident that Everett would be okay because of my antibodies, although that obviously wasn't a guarantee. He recommended that we still be cautious by having the girls wear long sleeves to cover any open scabs and to try and have them wear masks while holding him. Definitely a challenge, but we were up for it.

So off we went, excited but a bit nervous.
Seeing their baby brother for the first time!
Reese was literally squealing with excitement and was all about wearing a mask and using "special soap".
Poor little Claire didn't totally understand and pretty much flipped out about wearing a mask. Really I think she was more excited just to have me home anyway. She and I cuddled a lot. (Oh how I love my tired and puffy "I just had a baby" face.)
Reese and Claire picked out his take home outfit. They thought it was the funniest thing that he was going to have a "tiger eating his bum". :)
"Rarrr!!"
Reese could not get enough of the little man. She set up a spot where she could rest and be by him at all times.
Let's be honest, the masks only lasted a couple days. Thankfully, because the girls had been vaccinated, their cases were mild and things seemed to have scabbed over fairly quickly. Claire was beaming when she finally got to really hold Everett for the first time. I just love her cute little happy face in these pictures!
And we better not forget the other non-chicken pox people who were also excited to hold him....

Dadoo
4 weeks later the excitement level to hold Baby Brother has not dwindled much.
Every morning the girls want to know where Everett is and are so bummed if he's in his room sleeping. They have been great helpers (sometimes a little more help than I need) and I've been very surprised at how well Claire is doing with him. She really hasn't been too jealous so far. She's even shared her blankey with him....the very thing she vowed never to do before he was born. There is definitely no doubt that this little man is loved! P.S. I love the Claire quote under "Just for Laughs" on my sidebar.

I was just thinking that I needed some more Everett pictures in my life. He is so precious and I love how much your girls are enamored with him! (These pictures certainly didn't help my baby-hunger though...being 41 weeks pregnant stinks!!)
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these pictures! I'm so glad that the girls just love him to pieces--how couldn't you? He is way too adorable. I loved this update!!!
It's going to be so funny for Everett to see pics of the first time he's coming home....his big sisters wearing cool masks:-) Memories! Beautiful kids.
So cute! I can't believe he's already a month old! And I have to say the masks are pretty trendy. :) I hope the girls are getting over them quick and that the jealousy never starts with Claire. We love you guys!
Love all your baby story posts...glad you're all home and happy
What a handsome little newborn. I absolutely love that picture of all 3 kids where Evers is looking so bright and alert. So 4 weeks later the girls are still excited huh? That's pretty lucky. Hopefully the girls won't think the "shine" has worn off that little guy any time soon.
This is probably a shocking surprise, but Calvin had that tiger-bum outfit too. :) And of course we copied your carseat. He looks so tiny sitting in it though! I love how Claire shared her blankie, even though she swore not to. It's so sweet how quickly they fall in love, isn't it? I can't believe he's already 4 weeks!
Such sweet pics of the girls and baby Everett!
All your pictures are so sweet! I especially love the one with Claire and Everett:)
p.s. I haven't totally given up on my blog... I'm just on the every three month plan right now. Hopefully my desire to post more will return soon!
Wow who knew that chicken pox would complicate bringing a baby home even more. Your girls are so sweet. My favorite is Reese sleeping by him. I love seeing siblings care for each other. There is nothing better. Everett is so sweet. Congrats again on his arrival. And best of luck in the upcoming months. 3 is a bit tricky at first.
That is so cute and so funny, well maybe in retrospect. The day I got home from the hospital with Sarah, I found out Sophie had chicken pox. It appeared while I was in the hospital and Mike thought they were "bug bites". The baby didn't catch it.
