What's that? It's January?! Well, too bad! I've been meaning to finish up this post for the past 2 months!!! So let's go back in time just a bit to the month of December. A very special month for many reasons, one of which is that it's this little beauty's birthday month.
I give you
MISS DECEMBER....
Some things about the Little Miss...MISS DECEMBER....
1) She puts up with a lot.
Not only is she very patient with her bossy older sister, but also with her mommy who shoves her in things like giant snow suits. She really has been such a tolerant and adaptable little gal in most regards. Probably largely due to being the second child (?).
2) She loves to "read".
No tv interest for this lady. I would honestly say that reading is her favorite thing to do. When we go into the playroom, she typically goes straight for the books, grabs a stack, climbs up onto the reading chair and "reads" away. (She most certainly did not get that love from me!) She also loves to sneak into Reese's room and go through her pile of books.
3) She is quite the fashionista. She knows exactly what to do with any headband, hairbrush, or pair of sunglasses she finds.
4) She's a full-on pedestrian.
She really took off with her walking the week after Thanksgiving. There was no back and forth crawling-walking-crawling for her. Once she saw that she could use those feet, she was done with her knees. She had plenty of bumps and bruises to show for it too.
(This picture was taken about a week after most of her initial falls so the bruises and cut under her eye were mostly faded.)5) Her lips! Look out Angelina Jolie. No need for collagen in these babies!
6) Major Daddy's girl! With Reese, Tom was the one getting in trouble for hugging me. With Claire, it's the other way around. She breaks us up, then goes for him. And the second he walks in the door after work it's "mommy who?"
Welcome to a taste of motherhood, Thomas.
7) She's really not all that vocal. The only thing she really says consistently is "Uh-oh". Which is definitely not to say that she's not understanding. The other day I was reading a book to her and pointing out different parts of the face. A few minutes later she was over by herself looking through the book and when she got to the right page she started pointing to her nose. It's so fun to see when they start making little connections.8) She's happiest when she's holding a spoon. An IKEA spoon to be exact.
When she's sad, you just put a spoon in her hand and she immediately calms down. It also makes for instant smiles for pictures.
9) The love for spoons may have something to do with her love for food.
Claire came out ready to chow and not much has changed. In the words of Tom, "she never met a spoonful she didn't like." Her body is definitely not representative of how she eats though. For example, one night after she ate ALL of her regular FULL dinner she then begged to eat Reese's leftover cheeseburger (Reese is on the opposite end of the spectrum and had only 2 bites of it). Claire seriously downed 2/3 of that Sonic burger. And those things aren't little!

weight- 19 lbs 8 oz- 30%
height- 28 1/2 in- 30%
10) She is a major climber/getter inner to everything.
The dishwasher is number one in her book for places to climb. It does, after all, contain her most treasured items.
She's fantastic at throwing things off shelves too. (Long live VHS by the way!!) I realize that this is not uncommon for this age, but Reese was nothing compared to Claire!

Such a beautiful little girl! I love each and every picture. :-) Can't believe she is one because that means my little one is coming up fast on one as well! Where does time go?
Aw, you are so good at getting fun pictures that show a lot of personality! Your girls are so stinkin' cute!
She is such a little beauty. I love the pic in the VHS tapes - she totally looks like she's been busted. Does she like doggies as much as Reese did/does? Oh and I must know where you got that full-on bib. Awesome. My girls are category-Claire eaters. Mushrooms? Butternut squash? Artichoke hearts? Bring it on.
What a cutie! Looks like she's keepin you busy! Love the little Miss December shirt-adorable!
The most adorable Miss December ever! She is seriously just yummy! and quite well-rounded with her love for reading and fashion :) What a cutie!
That is so cute! When my girls saw the pictures of her in the sunglasses they both said, "Awe!!!" I love the spoon thing. I noticed the IKEA spoon on your kitchen floor before you mentioned it below and thought, "Uh, love those things! Too bad the closest IKEA is in Utah!" She is so darling and we are so glad she was born. Happy late Birthday, Claire, we love you!
BTW, the huge snowsuit reminds me of the kid from "The Christmas Story"! So funny!
I definitely feel like I know the little gal a whole lot better now. Such a cutie!! Spoons, huh? That picture of her on the stairs in her dress cracks me up because I'm pretty sure you posted that picture a few months ago and didn't happen to mention the spoon. I never noticed it. What a fun and funny "inside story". I totally need to go back and finish my blog of Ruthie's 1-year-mark.
Cynthia- Yes, Claire loves dogs and cats just as much as Reese. She is all over them when we're at my parents. The full body armor bib is also from IKEA. It's perfect for the independent "I want to do it myself" eater.
Ally- I noticed the spoon on the ground later too. She's also holding a green one when she's reading in the chair. And if you take that thing away from her, you totally get yelled at. She was sick last week and I even gave her a spoon to sleep with for comfort. So silly.
I love the chubby legs. Happy late birthday, Claire!
She is such a doll! I love the dishwasher shot, it reminds me of life at our house - and the videos on the floor. Love it.
Miss December is so CUTE!! She is going to be so smart from reading all those books! Its amazing that she will sit still and read. (I get through a few words and Ridge wants to throw the book). And, the spoons crack me up!
The post was adorable, but I have to add taht your new stories on the sidebar are fantastic too. Aren't blogs great for capturing the little moments so we don't forget them? :)
I love looking at your pictures. You are a talented mom and I am sure your daughters will look to you for your example!!
She is the cutest. And so easy going! I love it, I really don't think she has ever even cried at my house when I've watched her. She's a beauty that's for sure.
She's so gorgeous! I love the pics of her in her snowsuit. She looks like the stay-puff marshmellow man! I can't believe she's 1!
she is so cute! i think it's true - the kids after the first always put up with a lot. avery got beat up by tyson but it's notthing what payton has to endure with both of her older siblings!! happy birthday claire.
I love her lips! She is so darn cute... kind of like her mom... and her big sister!!
How can she be 1 already?! Happy Birthday Claire!
Simply adorable! Love that little lady with those chunky cheeks and perky lips. You have two beautiful girly girls. Hope you all get feeling better soon! We want to come hang out. :)
Jake is LOVING looking at all the photos of "the baby". His favorite photo is where Claire dumped all the videos out. When he saw it he exclaimed, "Wait Mom! Go back, baby big mess.....baby clean up right now!"
She sure is adorable!
