Spelling Snob

Okay, so I probably misspell words all the time, but this has been driving me nuts for years!!! Nobody ever spells the word "definitely" right. DEFINITELY/DEFINITE. That's all. I love you all!

Oh and just some random food for thought:
Horrible is negative, horrific is negative, terrible is negative. So why in the world is terrific a good thing? Okay, now really that's all. Thanks for wasting a minute of your life on my random thoughts.

Continuation:

So it probably looks like all I've done today is blogged, but I've actually been to the dentist to have a filling replaced, had lunch with friends, babysat for a friend at her house, taken Reese for a walk, and blogged 3 times. And it's only mid afternoon. The only thing I've been neglecting is cleaning my house...and who wants to do that? Boring.

Anyway, my earlier post and comments got me thinking about what other people are uptight about. I always think it's funny to hear the little things that drive people crazy. Like I'm a complete water snob. It's all I drink so I'm super picky about what it tastes like. At home I'll only drink bottled water. And even then, Arrowhead bottled water is nasty! But on the other hand, although I'm slightly picky about over all food choices, I am sooo not picky about differences in food brands. For example, I think PF Chang's tastes exactly the same as Panda Express. I really do. Tom, however, is the snobbiest little person about any food (he is not fun to cook for at all). He will only cook with the freshest ingredients and he's gotten super picky about the restaurants he'll eat at (thanks PwC).

So what are you a snob about?

You are too funny. I'm a grammar snob with this one: I hate that people don't know the difference between less and fewer. Less refers to items you cannot quantify. "Less anger," "less joy." Fewer refers to things you can count. "20 items or FEWER." "FEWER people who can't spell definitely." :)

PS - I like the songs on your blog. You'll have to list them out for me someday.

Oooo...Cynthia. Good one! I actually didn't know that. My dad was always a grammar nazi about the difference between "to bring" and "to take." I would explain it, but I'm the worst explainer in the entire world even when I understand it perfectly.

But one other funny thing that people say non-stop is, "I told him I said..." instead of just saying "I told him..." or "I said..." Listen for it because people do it ALL the time! It's actually quite funny.

I'm a snob about schedules. My kids are on a schedule and I love it, however, i hate it when my schedule gets interferred with. My kids don't nap well but I prefer them to nap in their beds and a set bedtime for them is a MUST in my book. If you have ever met my kids, you would understand why I have to put them on a schedule.

As far as anythign else goes, I'm not sure. I think i'm pretty much just a snob in general!! However, I made a rule for myself that I won't spend over $5 on an item of clothing for my kids. This does get broken on occasion but let's just say I'm a huge fan of the clearance racks at Target and Children's place. My kids closets are packed with clothes that didn't cost more than $5 and they are actually pretty cute.

Great Great Great Post.

I too am a water snob. I'd be interested to see what you think of Oregon tap water. It's the only tap water I can drink. However, I still drink filtered fridge water with crushed ice because my water has to be very cold when I drink it.

Amen to house cleaning being boring. I would say I'm also a clutter snob. If Steve and I decide to have one more kid I will be getting a housecleaner so I don't spend my life cleaning. Maybe I'll still get one even if we only end up with 3 kids:).

Wish we could be there for Reese's big day coming up. I can't believe she's almost a year old. It kills Steve and I because she is so cute.

Oh wow, I've been out of town, it's hard to keep up with all your latest posts! I also like the songs, like the Reese stories, and trying to figure out what I'm a snob about. Ummm,I'm a sleep snob? It's hard for me to sleep unless I'm super comfortable and in a dark room with little noise...

I am a breakfast snob. I will only eat pancakes, waffles, and french toast if I can tell (and believe me...I can tell) if they are made from scratch. People will make us really nice breakfasts or we'll go out for breakfast and most of the time I'm thinking, "man, all this work...and all I really want is a bowl of cereal".

I'm also a total snob about being punctual. I hate being late and hate it when other people are late.

I'm an accent snob. The past three years have been one giant "help Andrea lose her (subtle) Idaho accent" party for a few of my friends. I sincerely appreciate their correcting me, so when I'm home, I sometimes share the pronunciation tips. However, I didn't really become a snob per se until this past year. The London to North Carolina transition was not easy on the ears.

So, I love the your new music player and song selection. I don't even like country, but I fell in love with that Tim McGraw song last December/January. Regina is one of my faves. I don't know how much of her stuff you've listened to, but you can sample more songs through hypem: http://hypem.com/flash/search/regina%20spektor/xml/1/3/results.html. "On the Radio" is my favorite.

Hey Rachel. I'm so excited that you have a blog. I don't have one myself, but I love to see how everyone else is doing. You're little girl is beautiful. I'm so excited to check up on you guys now!

Wow guys, you came up with some good ones. I can pretty much relate to everyone of your "snobby" things too.

Paige, you were my original inspiration for being frugal. And you most certainly are not a "snob in general" or at all. But as I said on your blog, I am so super uptight about bedtime schedules too.

Adrienne, Oregon water is amazing. I really have never had tap water anywhere else like it. And I'm totally with you on having a housekeeper. Someday maybe.

Marissa, Tom is super crazy about the room being ultra dark and quiet too. Which I am so the opposite. I fall asleep so easy to noise. I actually prefer it (tv, someone talking to me).

Other Marisa, I completely agree about rather having cereal than anything else. I'm all about easy and simple and no mess. Do you still eat Honeycombs all the time? And oh man, you might hate me if we lived closer as far as the whole punctual thing goes. I inherited it from my mom.

Andrea, does Idaho have an accent? I guess everywhere has some sort of an accent. That's funny. Don't lose it though... stay true to your roots. :) I'll have to check out Regina's other songs.

Emily!!! I'm so glad you left a comment. I saw that you left a comment on Julie's and I clicked on your name and was so sad that you didn't have a blog. You really should start one. It's crazy how many people you end up re-connecting with through them. And you look amazing! (I saw your picture on Julie's.) I can't believe you have 2 kids. Adorable!

Yes, Rach...I still have a love affair with Honeycomb. It definitely is an on and then off relationship, though. Right now I'm really into Frosted Cheerios and Cinammon Life--but Honeycomb's never far from my heart. Can you believe that's what I lived on for four years in college? I still remain true to my stance that it's fortified so it's good for me :-).

I feel your pain about the misspellings. Nora's family now refers to me as the "Koch police" on their family blog because I made a comment a couple of times about their misspellings and now they are super self conscious about anything they type. Pretty funny. Check out their family blog connected to ours and look under the "First day of school" post on Oct. 27th and read the comments. It's hilarious.
Anyway, two things that bug me that I'd like to post. People from Utah always say "acrossed" for some reason, and I can't stand it. 'Maverick is acrossed the street.' Listen and you will hear it I swear. Also when people say "I could care less." If you could care less about something than it must be somewhat important to you.

Rachel B. said...

Adam, I could care less about your comments. Ha ha...that means that I actually liked them right? Oh man, how did I get so funny?! I actually do know what you're talking about. I've had to catch myself on that one a ton. Each time I have to logically think it out like exactly how you said. And I'll have to listen for the "acrossed" thing. That's funny.

I don't know if anybody is still reading these comments since I have a new post, but I just thought of another thing that I'm really snobby about. "Shy" people. I hate when basically people with no social skills call themselves shy. I do realize that there are people who are not quite as outgoing, but then there's also just plain rude. I was at a little get together last night and there was somebody there that triggered this thought. I would ask this girl a question, she'd answer with a one word answer then either turn her back to me or walk away. That's how it is every time I see her. And it's not just towards me. I actually think I'm very nice and very conscientious about trying to make it easy for people to talk to me. I really think that people cower behind the term "shy" when really it's just that they don't get VERY BASIC social skills. I just think some people don't make any effort. So I guess this one I really truly am a snob about.
