Small House Changes

These are just a few little house changes that I made that I think make such a big difference.

In a previous post I talked about this room in our house that I called the "eye sore" or the study. It's right off the entrance of our house so I hated that it was a room that looked so cluttery and yucky. And this was the room after it was picked up REALLY nicely. Right after that post I decided to get to work and make a few changes. (Sorry, Tom. I know you're probably thrilled that I'm posting this picture of you again.)

When I get a project idea in my head I get so excited about it that I have to do it right away. So one day while Tom was at work I painted the entire room and rearranged the furniture. Later I put up some frames and shelves that I had from forever ago. I also organized the bookshelves to look much nicer. I think the room turned out pretty darn good for only the cost of a gallon and a half of paint. It's nothing amazing, but definitely MUCH nicer in my opinion. (P.S. insert me right behind the computer screen right now. :) )

I really like how this wall turned out. I hosted a "party" for a lady in my ward who makes those vinyl signs so she made this one for me for free. I just barely put it up yesterday so now I feel like the room is a little more complete. I think the phrase "simplify" is probably super over-used on signs, but I thought it was perfect for this spot because these pictures really are of some of the simplest things that make me happy. Plus that really is how the room feels to me now...a little more simplified.

This is a really bad picture to show our old light fixture right above the table, but it was the best I could do (click on it to make it bigger). This light fixture was just the one that the builders put in and since we bought the house as a spec home we didn't get to pick anything.

I have been wanting this light fixture for about 1 1/2 years. I was so excited when we finally got it. Just like a little kid, I saved up my money from a couple of birthdays to get it. Kind of funny that those are the things that I like to spend my money on now.

Rachel, your home is BEAUTIFUL! I envy you. Someday. I'm impressed by anyone who can paint a wall and not mess it up completely, so great job!

I love your decorating ideas! It looks fabulous. I can't wait to get my hands on a home of my own someday, it would be a fun challenge to decorate on a shoestring (which is what I would have to do). Anyways, I'm glad you enjoy interior decorating, and thanks for posting pics.

Was that an Upper Case Living party? I've heard of them, but I've never been to one. When can I hire you to come decorate my house?? Seriously, yours is stinkin cute and mine needs some TLC desperately. Oh, and I think people would seriously laugh me out of town if I tried to take pictures for money. But I'm trying to learn and get better. I want to take a class but my husband has this stupid job where he can't promise to be home in time to watch the kids. Grrrr.

Thanks guys! I really enjoy decorating, it's only that dang lack of money thing that really holds me back. It definitely makes me appreciate it more though when I save up and can do something fun. I often whine about not having things, but I need to be grateful for the things that I do have...which really is a lot.

Cynthia, no this one is called "Line Upon Line." How much more mormon can it get? A lady in my ward started her own. We're a little slow here in Colorado with things like that. I hear they've been around forever in Utah. You really should pursue photography!

Stacie and Jess, ummm...you guys will both be married to dentists soon. Can't get too much better than that in my opinion. School now, but nice rewards later.

Your house is really cute! I love doing "home-improvement" projects. I actually painted our entire house by myself because Russell was in school and working full-time which meant he had no time. I really wanted it done so I just decided to do it....with the exception of him moving furniture. Your pics make me want to do some re-decorating.....

BYW, are you planning Reese's big 1 year old party yet?

Rachel, I love what you did with the office! The color is so beautiful. And I love the way everything is arranged now. The room looks very inviting. I love the vinyl lettering. I had a party and put a bunch of stuff up around my house. I hope to post about it soon!
