Idaho Trip

Last week was our big trip to Idaho for Tom's 10 year high school reunion. We stayed a whole week so we could spend lots of time with family too. Tom grew up in Emmett, ID just outside of Boise. He is definitely a small town boy at heart. He loved walking through his parent's garden and orchard in the backyard. Their garden is amazing! We had fresh fruit and vegetables all week long. They are super healthy eaters. (They did have one huge bag of chocolate chips that they kept in the fridge. Notice I said "did." I pretty much ate the whole thing while I was there. I just can't deny my sweet tooth!)

One night Tom's parents watched Reese so we could go and do a session at the Boise temple.

Visiting Grandma Bjorkman. Reese has just recently become a little more clingy so she was a little scared at first, but she slowly warmed up.

By the end she was "talking" to Great Grandma in a whisper-like voice.

One of Tom's favorite parts of the trip was going fishing with his dad. I couldn't get Tom to take the camera with him so I had to snap a picture of them preparing the night before.

While they were gone, Reese and I went on our own little outings. We went to the Gem County Fair with grandma and then later to the city pool. She was kind of scared of the cows just because they were so big (just like the horse a couple weeks ago), but she loved the little ones like bunnies, chickens, & goats. She's been gasping lately when she gets really excited.
Reese made a couple new friends while at the pool. One of her new friends was a 6 year old boy named Cole. At one point Reese was looking at him just jabbering away (she really thinks she's talking). He watched her for a minute then looked up at me with a confused look and said, "Ummm...I don't know what she's saying." Although he was looking for me to translate I had to explain that I wasn't quite sure either. :)

She loves to splash in the water.

What's more awkward than going to a high school reunion? Going to your husband's high school reunion. I really don't mind social situations where I don't know people, but by hour 5 I was kind of running out of small talk.

Tom had a great time! He was senior class president so he was kind of a big deal there. :) His camera happy wife had to sneak this picture of him. I think I may have embarrassed him a little.

The next part of the reunion was a family picnic at the park. Reese gave it two thumbs up.

Tom's high school buddies.
It is so funny to me that people who don't know Tom well think he is so serious. He is actually the biggest goof-ball. I won't get into some of the songs he's made up and crazy things he does at home, but I will tell you that in high school he and one of his friends sneaked into 20+ yearbook pictures of different clubs that they didn't belong to. He even made it into the Basque Club's picture.

Playing the piano with grandma

Counting toes with grandpa. Yep, they're all there.

Reese got to meet two more of her aunts and one more uncle for the first time. This is Aunt Becky. She is finishing up pharmacy school this year. She is going to be supporting Tom and I after she's done. :) Becky was so cute with Reese. She took her on a walk in the garden, took her for a ride on her shoulders, and carried her around in a laundry basket. Reese loved it all.

She also got to meet Aunt Andrea bright and early in the morning before we caught our flight back home. Andrea is a super smarty-pants attending Georgetown University. She's also been quite the world traveller lately. We were so excited we got to see/meet her even if it was for only an hour.

You have the most adorable little girl! I could just bite on those big apple cheeks all day.

Who cares if you embarassed Tom. He'll love having these pictures and no one will even remember. They probably thought you were the official reunion photographer.

I am so jealous of all of your many travels. It looks like you are having a great summer. I love your "grimace picture" after five hours of small talk at the reunion. It made me laugh out loud because I could totally relate to it. Do you think you'll be going to your reunion next year? I'm still trying to figure out where 10 years has gone!!

I love all the pictures from your trip!! Tom, I must say that you look very slim and trim. Rachel, I am sure you had to fight off all the girls that flocking to Tom.

I can't imagine what Brent would have done at my 10 year reunion. He would have gone crazy. I probably would go crazy at his as well so you are a trooper to tag along! Looks like a fun trip though.

Man, I totally can understand that tagging along to the reunion would be a little wild! I don't know if I could keep up small talk with all those people you've forgotten about from high school--much less, your husband's people. but actually maybe that's better...with no pressure of remembering who you are talking to! You guys look so cute!! You seriously have been quite the travellers--so fun!
