Last Friday we went overnight camping with some friends at a place called The Great Sand Dunes. I would love to say that I love camping and that I'm such an outdoorsy kind of girl...but I'm not. I'm more of a hike around during the day then stay in a hotel at night sort of girl (and even the hiking part is kind of pushing it :) ). I think this picture shows just how excited I was to be there!
My daughter feels the same way. By the way, although I don't really remember it, you might be able to trace the beginning of my love of camping back to the time my entire family went and all 7 kids were throwing up. Or maybe it was the time our trailer almost fell off the edge of a mountain cliff.
I think I've mentioned before that my husband is a master chef. Even out in the wilderness he can cook a mean breakfast burrito. One of the comments by a fellow camper was, "This is the best breakfast I've ever had." Somebody else asked, "While camping?" His response, "No, ever!" Needless to say, his wife didn't look too pleased with that comment.
Something got on my lens for these next couple pictures so unfortunately they're blurry. But I still think they show how cool this place was. It was such a fun place for the kids to play in the running water.
Reese and her buddy Gavin trying to figure out how to build sand castles.

Bocce Ball. I had never heard of this game, but it is actually really fun. The object is to basically get the red and green balls closest to the white one by either throwing or rolling it. There's a whole point system that goes along with it too. Check out Tom's follow-through. You can see part of the Sand Dunes in the background.
All in all, we had a pretty fun time. I was being a little dramatic about how much I don't enjoy camping. It's not on the top of my list of fun things to do, but every now and then it can be fun.

I love the camo. jacket. Reese makes it look good...
Marissa, I bought that a long time ago on clearance and then we had this come up and I thought it was perfect for camping. :)
Looks like fun. We have wanted to go camping too, it's just too dang humid! I just can't see spending time sweating it up in the great outdoors when I have a nice bed and air conditioning at home.

I'm not such a big camping fan either. I think I just grew up one day and realized that dirt is... dirty. But that's why we had a boy. Anthony only has to wait only few years before he's got a camping buddy.
I bet it was fun to hang out with a bunch of friends though. The social aspect can redeem camping, don't you think?
Looks like you guys have a swell life. If you feel like reading something thought provoking, please give my blog a read too :)

I have been telling Taylor about all of our exciting camping trips. I failed to remember the throwup trip. I don't know how Mom and Dad got through that one. The fact that the pop-up trailer wasn't even theirs at the time made things worse I'm sure. I may go camping someday, but it's just going to be an overnighter.
Rachel - I'm right there with you. Let's just say camping for my family is a hotel with no cable!!
Amen to not loving camping. Luckily my husband feels even more strongly than me (scouting was rather painful for him) so I don't know that I'll have to worry about him running out and buying a camper or tent anytime soon. Bret's dreading the day they put him into scouts and he has to do camping.

Looks like you're camping just outside Vegas, with a few trees and a little water. Oh the memories of the "throw up camping trip". Rained everyday. Only sponge baths to clean up. We finally gave up and went to a hotel. Give me a hotel with showers any day!
